Job summary

We are looking for a committed, innovative assistant with established people skills to join our dynamic Speech and Language Therapy team, providing outstanding support to children's clinical services across Merton. Your role will be to support our clinicians in delivering clinical treatment setting-up, implementing and reviewing therapy groups for children and young people across integrated children's therapy services in Merton Borough.

You will work closely with team leaders and Speech and Language Therapists in the community, mainly supporting children in the Early Years Foundation Stage within Merton. You will liaise with outside agencies to support Merton families. You will have hadexperience of working within healthcare in the community setting or similar and your communication and IT skills will be well developed.

We are committed to professional development, offering regular in-service training and one to one supervision. Internal and external courses are supported. You should have experience of software systems, engaging with the public and be willing to further develop your skills and knowledge in the field of developmental communication disorders.

Main duties of the job

To develop and implement group support to children and families under the direction of the Speech and Language Therapy line manager and team, to promote development of communication, language, speech skills for children in the Early Years Foundation Stage

To assist the speech and language therapist in groups, taking observations of children's communication skills social communication, play, attention, understanding, language and speech.

To compose end of group reports and programmes of post group intervention targets

To contribute to clinical teams both multi-disciplinary and uni disciplinary by discussing own and others input around families needs.

To work closely with children, carers and families area with a focus on high need groups, advising the Specialist Speech and Language Therapist of areas of particular need or adaptation.

To demonstrate empathy with children, carers, families and colleagues from linguistic and cultural minority groups ensuring that effective communication is achieved, particularly where barriers to understanding exist.
