London, Greater London, United Kingdom Green Schools Project Full time £40,000
Green Schools Project is seeking a Head of Education to work 4 days a week leading educational development and delivery for the Zero Carbon Schools program and other activities. This role is crucial for the organization, offering an exciting opportunity to join an expanding team within an acclaimed social enterprise dedicated to empowering students in schools to address the climate and nature challenges. We have rapidly grown from a solo operation to a soon-to-be 7-person team over the past few years, driven by successful fundraising and the expansion of the Zero Carbon Schools initiative, currently active in 120 schools across the country. We firmly believe that addressing the climate and nature crisis stands as one of the most critical societal issues that demands urgent attention, specifically through educational initiatives involving and enlightening young individuals who are not responsible for causing the crisis but will endure its consequences. Given the proper platform, young people possess the vigor, passion, and resolve to foster impactful change locally and globally. Our core values emphasize enthusiasm, innovation, environmental responsibility, ethics, collaboration, and fun.Our primary objective is to facilitate youth engagement in combating the climate and nature crisis, assisting schools in offering avenues for students to grasp individual responsibilities and systemic solutions. Our flagship Zero Carbon Schools program guides students in understanding their school's carbon footprint and empowers them to spearhead projects curbing emissions. We also provide faculty training to incorporate climate and nature topics into the curriculum, enriching students' learning experiences. While the education system falls short in addressing this issue, schools can drive change, positioning themselves as educational centers within their communities and pioneers of a carbon-neutral future. We actively encourage candidates from diverse backgrounds and experiences, particularly those underrepresented in environmental education (ethnic minorities, individuals with disabilities, LGBTQ+, residents of socioeconomically disadvantaged areas).Your responsibilities will include:
  • Reviewing, updating, and developing educational resources for the Zero Carbon Schools program in collaboration with the program delivery officer.
  • Creating an education strategy for Green Schools Project.
  • Conducting Zero Carbon Schools sessions to demonstrate program implementation.
  • Enhancing and maintaining teacher training resources.
  • Providing teacher training to schools.
  • Managing our existing repository of free resources.
  • Leading educational visits in partnership with Solar for Schools and crafting assembly and workshop content.
  • Designing and executing Zero Carbon Schools taster sessions to showcase the program to schools and educational institutions.
We require you to possess:
  • A fervent commitment to addressing the climate and nature crisis.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in school environments, engaging with children and youth.
  • Significant experience leading climate and nature education initiatives, ideally as both an in-school educator and an external facilitator.
  • A passion for pedagogy with a solid grasp of inspiring young individuals.
  • Enthusiasm for creating, improving, and revising educational materials.
  • Excellent communication skills to motivate and inspire diverse audiences.
  • Strong organizational abilities, capable of multitasking efficiently.
  • A growth-oriented mindset and resilience in challenging situations, viewing setbacks as learning opportunities.
In return, you can expect:
  • An opportunity to contribute to an acclaimed social enterprise revolutionizing schools' responses to the climate crisis.
  • A nurturing environment to enhance your skills and knowledge.
  • An annual salary of £40,000 for 4 days a week.
  • 33 days of annual leave per year, including bank holidays.
  • Flexible working hours and arrangements.
