What it's like to work here The Tyne Valley Portfolio includes the five places the Trust cares for in Northumberland across this important cross-country route, from Bellister near Haltwhistle, to George Stephenson's Birthplace in Wylam and including Hadrian's Wall, Allen Banks andCherryburn in between.


Housesteads will be your primary place of work where we jointly manage this key component of the World Heritage Site with English Heritage and Northumberland National Park.

Housesteads is one of the 16 forts the Romans built along the Wall and by far themost complete, sitting in it's stunning landscape setting it is also one of the most visited sites on the Wall.

We also have offices at Cherryburn - this former family farm of traditional stone buildings, was the birthplace of Thomas Bewick , the father of modern wood-engraving

'Cherryburn, the place of my nativity, and which for manyyears my eyes beheld with cherished delight, is situated on the south bank of the Tyne, in the county of Northumberland, a short distance from the river. The house, stables, etc., stand on the west side of a little dean, at the foot of which runs a burn.'

What you'll be doing The National Trust is a busy organisation that has a lot going on at all times - you can guarantee that no day is the same so you'll have to love variety.

As well as supporting day to day operations and the wider team, you'll have the chance to support avariety of work streams and offer your advice beyond your team.

You'll always champion best practice when it comes to business services and will be confident challenging the norm when you think there's a better way of doing something.

You will be working with the operations team based primarily at Housesteads, but one day a week at Cherryburn.

You will be working alongside National Trust staff and volunteers, supporting the teams to deliver each element of their work.

Don't worry if you don't have all these skills, we want the right person to fit into our team, there's always training with any new job

And you will be helping look after these wonderful places for future generations to enjoy.
