The post-holder will be employed by the Trust as an Apprentice in Operating Department Practice and undertake degree level study, demonstrating the Apprentice standard as set by the Institute for Apprenticeships (IFA) and the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) standards of proficiency. Upon completion of the degree level study, the apprentice will be eligible to apply to the HCPC and work under the protected title of Operating Department Practitioner (ODP). The apprenticeship will encompass teaching blocks at University and clinical placements (Whilst the apprentice will be under the management of Lincoln County Hospital Theatres, some placements will be situated at Pilgrim Hospital Boston, Grantham and Louth), the work-based learning will encompass anaesthetics', intra-operative and the post anaesthetic phases of care. The university will be selected and commissioned by the Trust.

  • Evidence of GCSE at grade C or grade 4 and above or full Functional Skills Level 2 or equivalent alternative qualification in Mathematics, English Language or literature.
  • To meet university degree course eligibility criteria as agreed between the University and Trust (Level 3 NVQ or equivalent in Healthcare)
  • Care Certificate - employer responsibility
  • Note: Successful candidates with appropriate experience and a level 3 healthcare qualification will be required to submit a short essay to the university for assessment provide assurance of academic ability to study at this level
Experience Essential
  • Experience of working in a Clinical Environment
  • Experience of prioritising own time and working to deadlines.
  • Experience of using good customer relations and effective communication skills including face to face.
  • Ability to evidence/demonstrate key values and behaviours in line with the Trust framework:
Desirable
  • Experience as a health care support worker or equivalent in hospital.
