Job summary

Public Health Wales has the remit to provide strategic leadership for the development of immunisation services across Wales both in primary and secondary care and in addition to those non NHS organisations who have a need for immunisation advice and guidance. An opportunity has arisen to join our existing team and help shape the future.

The Medical Information Specialist will provide written information including leaflets, campaign material and education resources on vaccine preventable disease and immunisation to support the immunisation programmes of local health boards and to inform service users about vaccine preventable disease and immunisation.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will:

Use information provided by the VPDP nurse/practitioner team to produce written guidance and information including leaflets, campaign material and education resources on vaccine preventable disease and immunisation.

Conduct reviews of existing vaccine preventable disease and immunisation literature across the UK and globally, and conduct literature reviews to support the development of vaccine preventable disease and immunisation guidance suitable for Wales.

Manage the provision of documents for consideration by VPDP incorporating professional opinion, and based on analysis and interpretation of literature, policy and legislation.

Manage the development, maintenance, and updating of the VPDP data base to ensure that there is an audit trail of discussion and decision making in regard to the development of vaccine preventable disease and immunisation information and guidance.

Contribute to the development and maintenance of any IT application as above for the implementation of vaccine preventable and immunisation guidelines across Wales.

Carry out other pieces of critical appraisal and evidence review, medical writing based on this evidence, public and / or healthcare practitioner consultation and governance processes as needed.

Contribute to the development and maintenance of the VPDP website on the Public Health Wales Website.

Assist and progress the VPDP work programme.

NVQ Level 4, Degree or equivalent level of experience Advanced ECDL or equivalent level of experience

Literature searching and evaluation Knowledge of medical terminology and vocabulary Understanding of information governance and records management requirements A broad understanding of NHS systems and structures Good knowledge of MS Office Suite
