Responsible to: Professional Development and Engagement Manager
ASET ) is the UK professional body for university placement and employability staff, who are variously academics and placement practitioners in careers and employability roles. ASET is a well-established membership association, supporting more than 1800 Higher Education (HE) professionals across the UK and Ireland. We champion the concept of work based and placement learning and provide training and opportunities for the dissemination of good practice across the sector. A registered Charity, the organisation is led by a board of Trustees and supported by a small office team. Our team is expanding and we are currently looking for an experienced and creative communications/marketing officer to develop, coordinate, and deliver our marketing and communications strategy. As a small team, all our staff are part-time and we are open to a conversation regarding working days within UK office hours.
As ASET's Communications Officer you will lead on all aspects of external communications to drive our member engagement. An effective communicator, you will manage our website, be responsible for targeted email campaigns, design and write ASET newsletters and manage our LinkedIn. You will identify key audiences and devise strategies to build engagement alongside evaluating and measuring the effectiveness of campaigns. Your keen eye for detail will ensure all ASET communications and publications are in line with our branding and convey a uniform tone and approach. This role offers an opportunity to demonstrate initiative and work autonomously.
We are looking for a strong communicator, with excellent written, verbal and design skills. You will be self-motivated, good with technology and be confident using design softwares and WordPress. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who wants to work in the HE landscape and in the employability space and has the motivation to shape this role to help ASET grow for the benefit of its members. An understanding and knowledge of work based and placement learning would be beneficial. This role is home based with occasional UK travel to ASET events (annual conference, biennial Leadership Exchange).
Essential
- Experience using WordPress with a knowledge of SEO and Google Analytics
- Experience using design platforms e.g. Canva or Adobe Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator etc)
- Prior experience working in a communications or marketing role
- Excellent communication skills: verbal and written
- Eye for design and a keen attention to detail
- Self-motivated and versatile, able to adjust to the changing demands of an evolving organisation
- Able to evidence an ability to work independently, managing competing demands in order to meet tight deadlines and deliver multiple and complex projects
- Enthusiastic and supportive team player
- Good IT skills including Microsoft Office
- Flexible to travel to events UK wide including occasional overnight stays (e.g. Conference)
Desirable
- Experience and/or knowledge of Work Based and Placement Learning within the HE sector
