Nottingham, Nottingham, United Kingdom Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust Full time
As an Emergency Department Assistant at Queen's Medical Centre in the Adult Emergency Department, you can make all the difference

You'll be a key part of a team that makes sure patients and their relatives are reassured; the medical staff who treat them have the support and resources they need, to maintain a working department and help the staff do the best job they can.

It's a big responsibility, and it's as rewarding as it is challenging in one of the biggest Emergency departments in Europe.

This is a role that calls for a 'people person' with a very well organised approach.

You'll need a good basic education and be able to speak and write English well, be able to input data quickly and accurately, but more than that, you will need to be cheerful, pleasant and patient.

Reliability is extremely important, as is the flexibility to work nights, weekends and bank holidays (shifts are on a rota basis, 24/7).

There is a lot of standing and walking involved in this role

This post could also expose you to distressing issues and incidents. In all aspects, full initial and ongoing training will be available to you.

The job will see you combine three roles:
The main part of the role is patient care related.

This clinical nursing aspect of the role involves assisting nursing staff with the nursing observations, patient care, oxygen therapy and resuscitation, and, in time, you'll undertake more training for more advanced roles.

This involves working in the ED Majors unit, Resus, the speciality bed wait areas for patients awaiting admission to the ward & ED urgent treatment unit.

The reception role involves, after extensive training: working on various hospital and national computer systems, inputting data accurately and at speed, maintaining accurate electronic and paper records, dealing professionally with telephone enquires both internal and external, maintaining a high level of patient confidentiality. A high level of customer care is required for this role.

In addition, you'll make sure the Department itself is looked-after by reporting equipment faults, ordering supplies and stationery and generally keeping the place tidy.

With over 17,000 staff, we are one of the biggest employers in the city with a central role in supporting the health and wellbeing of our local population.

We play a leading role in research, education and innovation.
Come and join our wonderful team at NUH.

We are big believers in diversity and welcome new ideas to help develop our team in order to deliver world class healthcare to the vast patient populations we serve.

With endless personal development opportunities available, at NUH we will endeavour to turn your job into a career

In addition to the below summary, you'll need to familiarise yourself with full Job Description and Person Specification documents attached to this advert.

You will need to:

Hold the right to work in the UK (certificate of sponsorship is not available for this role)

Be prepared to undertake pre-employment checks, which can last a number of weeks and includes a medical and criminal record check

If you are successfully shortlisted, you will be invited to a face to face interview.

Please note that virtual interviews will not be available.
