Liverpool, Liverpool, United Kingdom Liverpool Museums Full time

Location:
Liverpool

Salary:
£31,355.00

Contract Type:
Temporary

Position Type:
Full Time

Closing Date:
Monday 26 February Noon

  • Our people are at the heart of National Museums Liverpool. Colleagues from across the NML team make a difference every day, creating memorable experiences for everyone and challenging expectations. We pride ourselves on being a place for everyone, but we are always aiming higher, aspiring to be representative of the communities we serve. Through our people, we are building a culture which embeds trust, respect and inclusion and an organisation in which people are engaged and empowered to enable National Museums Liverpool to evolve. You could be just the right person to join us.
  • We currently have the post(s) of Project Curator
  • International Slavery Museum available.
  • The International Slavery Museum is dedicated to increasing the understanding of transatlantic chattel slavery and other forms of slavery. We are a museum founded on community activism to engage, research, and explore the impact and legacies of historic slavery. The Museum has worked with many charities organisations, activists, and artists and continues to develop its collection and programmes.
  • The Waterfront Transformation Project is an exciting development for National Museums Liverpool (NML) which will play a significant role in the overall 10year masterplan to reimagine the iconic Liverpool Waterfront site. In the next two years we will work with our members of our communities to reimagine and reinterpret the collections for the International Slavery Museum and the Maritime Museum, creating new galleries and new ways to discuss our collections and the city's history.
  • The Project Curator of History & Archaeology will play a central role in the creation of a high quality visitor experience for the International Slavery Museum (ISM) by researching, developing, and creating highquality quality and visitorfocussed exhibition displays. They will work with other curators in the International Slavery Museum and across the NML, with the Learning & Participation team and the rest of the project's content creation teams, and with our external design consultants to coproduce the content, displays and interpretation for the Museum.
  • This Project is generously supported by The National Lottery Heritage Fund with thanks to National Lottery players. We will place communities at the heart of the waterfront project development and involve diversity of voice and representation. This postholder will need to involve themselves in these discussions and work alongside community members in the planning for, and coproduction of, the displays and the design development during the coming months.
  • This is a unique opportunity for someone with the passion, energy, and dedication to join our Project team in a strategic role that is critical to building relationships and trust with community stakeholders most affected and most invested in the outcomes of the International Slavery Museum redevelopment, and wider Waterfront Transformation Project.
