About the role

Our Incident Support Unit (ISU) Operatives play an integral role in keeping the M25 Motorway network running efficiently and safely.

This role is based out of our Leatherhead, Kent depot and involves undertaking a wide range of incident response, hazard clearance, network maintenance and other tasks as required.

Our Incident Support Unit (ISU) Operatives work on a 4-on 4-off shift pattern basis and we offer plenty of opportunities for training and development.

What you'll be doing

Provide the initial response and arrange specialist advice at the scene of road related incidents, hazards and collisions acting in Bronze incident command capacity.

Attend incidents and work safely in accordance with agreed CPS policies, method statements and risk assessments to facilitate the prompt clear up of hazard/incident.


Undertake activities, as instructed, with capabilities to ensure that your area of responsibility is maintained.

This will include but not exclusive to: 1. Debris and Safety patrols/inspections, 2. Graffiti removal 3.Carriageway repairs, 4. Soft estate maintenance (eg grass cutting), 5. Street Cleansing/Litter picking removal, 6. Sign maintenance, 7. Cleansing 8. Any other duties allocated by Line Managers.

Implement Emergency Traffic Management in line with CPS policies, method statements and risk assessments.

Provide accurate and legible written and verbal communication in the form of reports and records as required.

Use mobile communication/data devices to accurately input data for record purposes to form reports and business records as required

Undertake routine vehicle checks and maintain accurate and up to date driving records in line with legislation in accordance with CPS procedures.


Taking due care of any CPS property including but not limited to tablets, vehicles and airwave radios.

Raise awareness of issues which may affect the safe operation of the network and report these as observed.

Check that Traffic Management signs, equipment and materials are carried on vehicles in line with current ISU checklist and are in working order, restock and record and report defects as appropriate.


Participate in Winter Service rota as required

Attend training courses as required.
Working arrangements
Our ISU operatives work on a 4-on 4-off shift pattern basis, which includes weekends, nights and bank holidays. The role involves a reasonable level of travel around the M25 network and between depots.

You will also be required to travel to meetings, training and works sites outside normal operational area as well as participate in out of hours working to fulfil Winter Maintenance.
