Purpose of Role:

● Assist the Corporate Communications team in building and managing Camelot's corporate reputation with the media, third parties and other key external stakeholders.

● Contribute to the development and execution of, and act consistently with, the Corporate Communication team's strategy and plans, and wider Corporate Affairs strategy.

● Identify and manage reputational risks and corporate issues of public interest.

● Minimize negative media coverage and comment on Camelot and, where appropriate, The National Lottery, correcting any inaccuracies in a timely manner, where possible.

● Provide guidance and direction to internal stakeholders on potential issues which could affect Camelot's reputation.

Department Description:

● The Corporate Affairs department is responsible for enhancing and protecting the reputation of Camelot and The National Lottery.

● It manages public policy issues and promotes the interests of Camelot as the operator of The National Lottery. It also raises awareness of The National Lottery across a range of media at a national, regional and local level, and develops partnerships with key external stakeholders.

● It manages internal and external relationships with a wide range of stakeholders – including the government, Parliament, the Devolved Administrations, the media, public interest groups and National Lottery distribution bodies.

● It does this through identifying and managing reputational risks, and developing and implementing a Corporate Affairs strategy to maximise returns to Good Causes and meet Camelot's commercial objectives.

Team Description:

● Responsible for protecting and enhancing the reputation of Camelot and The National Lottery among the media, stakeholders and opinion-formers.

● Develops and enforces Camelot's overarching corporate messaging, and devises and implements campaigns which communicate the business's key messages to core target audiences.

● Manages internal and external stakeholder relationships, while identifying and managing reputational risks.

Develops and implements a media strategy aligned with Camelot's business strategy and commercial objectives.

● The team's brief covers national, regional, local, business, consumer, trade and political media activity, issues management, corporate strategy, financial reporting and rebuttal.

● Works cross-functionally with all Corporate Affairs functions and the wider business to guide, develop and oversee consistent messaging.

● Advises the Chief Executive Officer and senior Executive Team on all aspects of media relations, including message development, media and presentation training, and speechwriting.

Key Accountabilities and Duties:

● In line with the Corporate Communications team's plan and with the direction of the Head of Media Relations, devise and implement PR programmes and strategies in the trade, regional, national and broadcast media.

● Understand and identify the potential wider impact of issues, and provide guidance to develop responses to media issues, including working with the Policy & Public Affairs team to devise strategies and responses to political announcements.

● Contribute to the development of a programme of corporate activity in relation to the business, national, regional and trade press.

● Manage day-to-day media liaison.

● Work with the Head of Media Relations and wider team to manage potentially negative media enquiries and issues by gathering information and drafting messaging.

● Liaise with all departments – both external and internal facing – to identify media and broader corporate risks, and advise on mitigations.

● Work with the Corporate Communications team, other Corporate Affairs stakeholders and wider teams to develop and deliver consistency of message across the business.

● Work with the Corporate Communications team on specific projects and activities.

● Lead on specific projects and initiatives outlined in the Corporate Communications team's plan, drafting proactive and reactive communications and giving internal briefings as required.

● Brief and disseminate business-critical information to the Head of Media Relations, wider team and, where appropriate, other teams across the business.

● Develop corporate messaging for key senior colleagues and, where necessary, organise the provision of media training for company spokespeople.

● Work with colleagues within Corporate Affairs and within the wider business to support and promote the activities of the wider Corporate Affairs Department.

● Perform out-of-hours duties (including monitoring external draw communications) as on-call press officer in line with a rota agreed within the team.

● Act as company representative at press briefings and external events, such as conferences and awards ceremonies.

● Responsibility for corporate company website – to include updates and overseeing maintenance

● Oversee specific third-party suppliers

Skills & Experience:

● Experience of developing, planning, executing and achieving communications strategies and objectives, and of campaigning in the media.

● Demonstrable knowledge of the media, and its potential to influence and affect other stakeholders.

● Proven experience of day-to-day media liaison, and confidence in dealing with and briefing journalists in all formats – face-to-face, orally and in writing.

● Demonstrable ability to manage complex media issues – particularly potentially negative ones – effectively in a commercial and highly scrutinised environment.

● Demonstrable ability to rapidly produce high-quality, high-impact and persuasive written materials.

● Ability to brief and influence senior colleagues within the business.

● Understanding of media measurement and evaluation techniques.

● Ability to manage specific projects in a timely and cost-efficient way.
