Family Contact Worker (ICFA Service)

Salary:
£26,000 p.a. pro rata
16 hours per week (including flexibility for early evening/weekend hours as required)

Fixed term contract:
Until March 2024

We have a vacancy for a Family Contact Worker for our Improving Child and Family Arrangements Service (ICFA Service).

This service supports parents and children referred by CAFCASS to have safe and beneficial contact through tailored work plans and time-limited contact work.

We are looking for an experienced and suitably qualified family contact worker who can engage with children and parents to carry out assessments, manage conflict resolution, observe contact activity, and produce detailed reports.

You will be working directly with children and families, ensuring all reporting is completed in line with service requirements.

This work may be over the phone, via webcam or in person in our centre or a community-based location, based on the needs of the family.

We require good IT and admin skills and experience of delivering work within service timescales. You will need up-to-date knowledge private law and of reducing family conflict, safeguarding, parenting and child development.


You will need the use of a car/able to travel and be confident working on your own and delivering contact sessions in community locations.

You will work closely with the Service Manager and IFCA Lead to ensure safe and effective delivery


We anticipate this role will be mainly over 2/3 days a week but will need flexibility to meet the needs of parents and children, including after school/early evening and Saturdays as required.

An enhanced DBS check will be required.

PURPOSE OF THE JOB

  • To work directly with children and families to promote safe and beneficial contact by following Relate Birmingham, CAFCASS and NACCC requirements.
  • To carry out all contact activity and reporting in line with contract requirements.
  • To liaise with other team members and support the Service Lead to deliver the ICFA service to achieve improved outcomes for the children and families.

KEY TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Carry out assessments, develop a plan and produce accurate written reports. Prepare and maintain case records and details of sessions to formulate how and if contact should progress, monitoring and evaluation and to complete associated administrative tasks.
  • Carry out direct work with children including observed contact/handovers, community contact, preparation for contact, needs, wishes and feelings and indirect contact.
  • Carry out direct work with parents including contact agreement meetings, preparation for contact sessions, dispute resolution sessions, review meetings. Observe and assess contact sessions, providing support and guidance as appropriate.
  • Use tools to engage children in direct work and make assessments of their needs, wishes and readiness for contact. Use tools to engage parents in direct and joint work around dispute resolution, coparenting and putting their children's needs first.
  • Ensure at all times children's safety and wellbeing are paramount and take appropriate action to protect their welfare, intervening or terminating contact if necessary.
  • Follow safeguarding policies and procedures, supported by and reporting into the Safeguarding Lead.
  • Attend meetings, reviews, supervision, and other related meeting as required.
  • To complete work on time and to the standard expected by Relate Birmingham, CAFCASS and NACCC, working to the procedures and guidelines for each specific contract or piece of work.
  • To undertake such other work as deemed necessary by the Service Manager for the success of the service and the development of our Family Support Services
  • To comply with the Relate Birmingham principles, aims, objectives and standards at all times.
