College Lecturer in Biochemistry

St. John’s College invite applications for a 1.0 FTE fixed-term College Lectureship in Biochemistry. The appointment is available for the period 1st October 2024 – 30th March 2025. This is a temporary, fixed-term position and will therefore not be extended or renewed.
Biochemistry in St John’s College has historically an excellent record of results in Prelims, Part I and Part II from undergraduates who arrive at College from diverse backgrounds. It has an undergraduate quota of three students per year. Tutorials for first year Biochemists are mainly provided in-house. In-house tutorials for Part I students (years 2 and 3) cover most topics in "Tool Boxes for Biochemistry", "Information Transfer", "Molecular Processes in the Cell", and "Cellular Chemistry". In addition, the Biochemistry tutors coordinate and provide teaching on topics in Biochemistry to the College's first years studying Pre-clinical Medicine, Biomedical Sciences, and Biology. The post therefore offers the opportunity to develop skills in teaching across multiple courses, as well as in undertaking academic administration for the College in a supportive and inclusive environment.
The salary will be 1.0FTE of point 1 of the University scale, grade 7, currently £36,024 p.a and is dependent on experience and qualifications, this figure will be adjusted to the equivalent of university scale point 1, grade 6 for candidates who do not hold a doctorate.
In addition, the successful candidate will be entitled to research allowances, and dining privileges as outlined in the Further Particulars. Further particulars for the post, including information about the application procedure, can be found here.
