Our Family Assessment Centre is instructed by the Courts and Local Authorities to complete parenting assessments specifically in relation to children who are subject to care proceedings.
You will be working closely with children and their families, other staff, partners and external agencies to provide a range of services and support designed to protect children from harm.
You will complete assessments in conjunction with the Family Support Workers at our Centre and the community.
As a Social Worker you will have extensive experience of working with children and families in a statutory setting as well as have skills in safe practice techniques. You will also have a proven track record of completing robust and analytical parenting assessments and giving evidence in court and have up-to-date knowledge and experience of all relevant legislation and guidance.
You will develop meaningful relationships with the children and families that we work with to ensure fair, robust, and evidence-based assessments. As well as undertaking assessments, the Social Worker and wider team, support parents to develop their parenting skills - this may be through direct intervention sessions, the provision of immediate verbal feedback, regular written / pictorial feedback, and regular direct meetings with families.
Job Description:
- Joint working and mentoring of Family Support Workers
- To assess parenting capacity and give due consideration to the wishes, rights and opinion of the child and the nature of the problem that requires social worker intervention
- To prepare reports and maintain in depth records for a range of requirements including proceedings in court
- To participate in the role of Social Worker and form part of the Centre's rota
- Deputise for the Registered Manager
- To deliver parenting sessions in relation to the assessment criteria
- Work within the ethos and values of the Centre
- Experience of building positive working relationships with families, staff and other health and social care professionals
- Ability to plan and organise workloads effectively
- Model excellent administrative skills and computer literacy
- Commitment to continued improvement of own practice to enhance service delivery
- Sensitivity to a diverse range of service users and evidence of responding to their different needs
- Ability to implement the Centre's policies, procedures and instructions
- Ensure continuous quality improvement of placement planning, risk assessment processes and procedures
- Assist in supporting staff in the development of children's, young people's and families' placement plans and goals to meet their identified needs and manage risk
- Assist in responding to day-to-day safeguarding and risk management issues
- Support staff to prepare for and attend key meetings, case conferences and reviews of young people, children and families
- Maintain and develop links with Local Authority Officers and Services

Person Specification
- Experience of working with children and families post-qualification in a statutory setting
- Experience of working in the Court/Safeguarding Team
- Good knowledge of child development theories
- Have up-to-date knowledge and experience of relevant legislation and guidance in relation to working with, and the protection of children
- Experience of undertaking complex assessment work
- Excellent observation and assessment skills linked to child development knowledge
- Experience of effectively managing conflict, organised, efficient and motivated

- Ability to undertake to contribute to supervision/team meetings to promote your own team development, skills and learning
- Ability to be flexible in approach to working hours and the needs of the Centre Proven skills in safe practice techniques and ability to work to risk assessments
Minimum Qualifications:
- BA Social Work
- MA Social Work /equivalent
