Newport, United Kingdom Newport City Council Full time

Newport City Council Childrens Services are seeking to recruit a social worker to join our Safeguarding HUB. This is an exciting time to join Newport City Council as we expand our children’s workforce to meet an increase in demand for our services.

You will have good assessment skills and the ability to engage with service users quickly, with a focus on the safety and wellbeing of children. You will be skilled in developing and sustaining effective multi-agency links across a range of professional groups.

The Safeguarding HUB post will involve responsibility for undertaking assessment and investigation work. You will be highly motivated, focused on providing high quality, timely and effective short term assessments and interventions to children "at risk" or "in need of care and support" in the community. You will be part of a highly supportive environment and have good access to training and development opportunities.

We are seeking inspirational and dynamic social workers who are able to make positive contributions to transform the lives of the families we work with. You will work within a service focused on person-centred and strength based approaches committed to achieving Wellbeing outcomes that enable families to safely live together.

Newport is a great place to live and work being a geographically small City with a diverse population of which 35,000 are children and young people. We are proud to have a stable workforce or dedicated staff of which all are permanent workers who experience a supportive and positive learning environment. Unique benefits are our effective Prevention and HUB services, the dedicated Mentoring and Consultation team, our partnership arrangement with Barnardo’s to deliver joint interventions to families as well as comparatively low, stable, caseloads, regular individual and group supervision and the opportunities for excellent career development and training opportunities.

For this role you will be a practitioner with a professional social work qualification, DipSW, CQSW, CSS or equivalent and registered with the Care Council Wales (or able to transfer from HCPC or similarly recognised body).

In addition to generous annual leave, good pension scheme, comparative or higher pay than neighbouring authorities Newport City Council offers great benefits including:
