Trainee Accountant – Accounting Services – Southampton

What’s the role?

You will join and support the expanding Centre of Excellence (CoE) in delivering accounting services to the other Gen II offices, and provide taxation, bookkeeping and accounting support to property team clients.

What you’ll be doing

  • Preparation of the financial statements
  • Preparation of the monthly or quarterly management accounts and bookkeeping
  • Preparation of VAT Returns
  • Assisting with managing client relationships with HM Revenue & Customs
  • Assisting with advising clients with regards to their statutory obligations
  • Liaising directly with clients and auditors with their queries
  • Monitoring own work to ensure timely and efficient completion

The ideal background for this role:

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Accounting and Finance is preferred
  • Studying for or willingness to study for a recognised accounting qualification (ACCA or ACA)

Experience and Knowledge:

  • Ability to work with demanding deadlines and be a team player
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • An awareness and understanding of the local finance industry, legislation would be preferred
  • Direct experience of producing Management accounts and financial statements would be preferred
  • Working knowledge of IFRS or other appropriate accounting standards would be preferred
  • Direct working experience with an accounting software would be preferred

Role Location/Hybrid Schedule

This role will be based in our Southampton office. Although the nature of most of the roles within Gen II cannot be classed as totally flexible, there is scope in some cases for a form of Agile Working. The different ways in which Agile Working can be undertaken is dependent on the demands and needs of the business, the office space available and the individual’s preferences and circumstances.
