Job Purpose

 

To act as the custodian of the drainage for their respective area and will be responsible for improving the overall performance of the DNM platform in collaboration with their respective County System Performance Teams including monitoring operational performance of DNM sensors and deciding on the most cost effective solutions, to enable proper network management. 

 

To ensure reactive resolution of sensor performance issues and identifying high risk needs which require further focus to prevent repeat failure of sensors or assets which could lead to ODI service failures or customer issues. To future sensor deployment plans to significantly reduce the volume of reactive work currently undertaken in their area. In order to do this the DNM Delivery Engineer will have to understand the day-to-day reactive work being undertaken in the Drainage area to drive improvement and prompt resolution, as well as working in collaboration with the County System Performance teams suggesting analysis of a range of performance / predictive data to proactively manage the sensor fleet and enable proper network management. 

 

Job Accountabilities

 

You’ll be responsible for ensuring compliance with all Wastewater Network and Company policies, procedures, Environment Agency protocol and regulatory requirements on a daily basis, ensuring regulatory data recorded in Wastewater Incident Reporting System (WIRS) is Reliable, Accurate and Complete, particularly around flooding, pollution and collapses. You will also be responsible for:

 
  • Improving drainage performance by providing technical input into planned programmes of work to reduce to number of reactive flooding and pollution incidents amongst others, and improve customer satisfaction and Service Incentive Mechanism (SIM) performance. Including point M&E asset performance improvement.                
  • Developing and maintaining very effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.                
  • Responding to reactive work on the Wastewater drainage network.                
  • Proactively identifying repeat incidents and implementing necessary interventions to stop repeat occurrences, including Fat, Oil and Grease (FOG) and ‘what not to flush' campaigns.                
  • Monitoring further work recommendations to help control spend within your district(s). In addition provide budget variance information to the Delivery Manager on a monthly basis.                
  • Acting as the Responsible Person for all health and safety related matters associated with activities undertaken on the wastewater network.                
  • Identifying investment needs on the wastewater network, and create problem notes for Very Small Projects (VSP'S) or Mitigation, and raise planned Serviceability works to improve asset performance.                
  • Ensuring that the sewer records are updated and accurate, clearly showing whether the problem was on an existing, transferred or private asset.                
  • Providing day-to-day technical support and advice to field team.                
  • Reducing customer complaints by proactively managing the Wastewater Network, and responding to customer contacts in order of preventing repeat contact and improving customer satisfaction and Service Incentive Mechanism (SIM) performance.                
  • Draft written responses to customers, MPs, councillors and other key stakeholders, as required.                
  • Participate on the standby rota.
 

Knowledge and Skills

 

To be considered for this role you’ll be HNC qualified in civil engineering (or a related subject) with an awareness of Confined Space Regulations 1997 and other Health & Safety regulations and standards including CDM and NRSWA . You’ll have extensive knowledge and experience of day-to-day sewer operation and maintenance techniques. You’ll also have:

 
  • Knowledge and experience of the principles of pumping station operation.                
  • Excellent understanding of the regulatory contact with Ofwat.                
  • Budget awareness and cost estimating skills.                
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills                
  • Excellent time management, organisational, problem solving and planning skills                
  • Excellent team working.                
  • Excellent customer service skills - both internal and external customers.                
  • Good IT skills and understanding of IT systems and their capabilities.                
  • Good understanding of the Network Maintenance Alliance.                
  • Full UK driving licence.
