Sunderland, United Kingdom University of Sunderland Full time

The University of Sunderland offers life-changing opportunities for 25,600 students across its campuses in Sunderland, London, Hong Kong, and through global partnerships with learning institutions in 15 countries. We're proud to be a top 50 UK university (Guardian University Guide 2024), with top-quality facilities, inclusive culture, and our vibrant, ever-changing city.

About the role

As an Assistant Director of the Student Journey Service, you'll champion student success and continuous improvement. Your crucial role involves supporting the Director, to foster a collaborative culture across teams in your portfolio and the wider service.

Day-to-day, you will support continuous development, aligning University priorities with service objectives, injecting creativity into service development. Designing our library and learner development offer, maintaining service standards, and engaging in strategic space management are just some of the ways that you will showcase your commitment to enhancing the student experience.

Building positive external relationships, championing student voices, and managing the service budget are key aspects. Leading projects and continuous improvement initiatives will drive strategic changes at both service and University levels. Occasional weekend and evening work will be required during busy periods.

About you

We're seeking a professional with a deep understanding of libraries in higher education. Your insights will contribute to the ongoing success of our Student Journey service. Showcase your talents for articulating, evaluating and advocating for high-quality learner development services aligned with evolving student needs.

In leadership, we need a proven track record in a large, complex organisation, showcasing effective people and financial resource management. Lead professional teams, exceed stakeholder expectations, and bring a track record of achieving key objectives. Your interpersonal finesse will be required to influence and negotiate at all levels. Your experience in managing complex projects is the cherry on top

What we can offer

Our university is not just a place of academic excellence, but also a community that embraces inclusivity and support. We value our staff and offer a rewarding package that goes beyond just salary. At the University of Sunderland, we prioritise not only your professional growth but also your happiness and well-being.

We strongly believe that an inclusive university, where a diverse range of individuals feel valued and have equal opportunity to get into work and reach their potential, is good for our staff, students, university, and society. Our work on equality, diversity and inclusivity has never been more important. We believe inclusivity is an essential value at the heart of what we do, and we want all our staff to be part of that journey with us.
