The ‘Improving Health and Reducing Inequalities Combined Authorities Programme’ is a three-year programme funded by The Health Foundation.  Led by the West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) and delivered in partnership with eight other Combined Authorities, the aim is to strengthen our collective role in addressing health inequalities across England.  This will be explored through regional policymaking and taking coordinated action across the system.
We have a secondment opportunity for a Consultant in Public Health, to provide specialist advice to the central programme delivery team and participating Combined Authorities.  You will contribute to the achievement of the following aims of the programme:
  • Extend the evidence base on how Combined Authorities can add value in tackling health inequalities and increase understanding of the levers available to them; 
  • Strengthen collaboration and peer learning across the Combined Authorities; 
  • Make tangible progress on activity to tackle health inequalities; 
  • Sustain capacity within Combined Authorities to prioritise work on health inequalities. You will strategically oversee public health elements of the programme portfolio working closely with WMCA Health & Communities team, participating Combined Authorities, The Health Foundation, the Research and Insights Partners (Centre for Local Economic Strategies and The King’s Fund), and the central programme delivery team. 
    Your professional development will be overseen by the West Yorkshire Combined Authority Associate Director Population Health and supported by the programme Senior Responsible Officer, WMCA Head of Health & Communities. You will be expected to complete CPD as required by the Faculty of Public Health.
    Please note: this is a secondment opportunity for 18 months and will work 3 days per week.
    What's essentialYou will have experience of working on Health in All Polices and tackling health inequalities. You will have experience of providing public health leadership across a wide range of stakeholders and in carrying out robust programme monitoring and evaluation. In addition, candidates must have:
  • Inclusion in the GMC Full and Specialist Register with a license to practice/GDC Specialist List or Inclusion in the UK Public Health Register (UKPHR) for Public Health Specialists
If included in the GMC Specialist Register/GDC Specialist List in a specialty other than public health medicine/dental public health, candidates must have equivalent training and/or appropriate experience of public health practicePublic health specialty registrar applicants who are not yet on the GMC Specialist Register/ UKPHR or GDC Specialist List in dental public health must provide verifiable signed documentary evidence that they are within 6 months of gaining entry at the date of interview [see Job Description document for additional guidance]If an applicant is UK trained in Public Health, they must ALSO be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interviewIf an applicant is non-UK trained, they will be required to show evidence of equivalence to the UK CCT Applicants must meet minimum CPD requirements (i.e. be up to date) in accordance with Faculty of Public Health requirements or other recognised bodyMFPH by examination, by exemption, or by assessmentPlease refer to the Job Description for full requirements and experience for this role.
