What youâll do:

  • Work closely with a cross-disciplinary team of Biologists, Chemists, Engineers and Material Scientists on R&D activities around development of membrane-based chromatography devices
  • Lead and support a range of work packages involving electrospinning and lamination of fibrous membranes, both in-house and through collaboration with external suppliers/CDMOs
  • Use a range of analytical techniques to characterise fibrous membranes and use these to understand which properties are critical for use in the target application (chromatography)
  • Take detailed lab notes and use these to write up accurate protocols, memos, technical reports and present findings
  • Carry out and document COSHH and Risk Assessments

Who you are:

  • You should hold a PhD degree in Materials Science, Materials Chemistry or Materials Engineering or a Masters Degree with industrial experience within these fields
  • Demonstrable understanding of fibrous membranes, ideally with practical experience of fabrication methods including electrospinning
  • Confident in using standard analytical techniques, including but not limited to scanning electron microscopy, porometery, viscometry, GC-FID and Raman spectroscopy
  • Confident in statistical data analysis
  • Organised, self-starting, innovative, collaborative and hardworking

It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:

  • Experience of developing membrane products for use in biomedical applications
