Job Summary

This role will be responsible for working with head of net zero delivery in delivering upon the Bank's Net Zero Roadmap and public commitments and leading on SCB's cross-company approach to carbon accounting. The net zero programme is a key strategic programme for the bank and involves collaborating across CCIB and CPBB sectoral business leads.

The holder of the role will need to be detail-orientated, have excellent stakeholder management skills and be proficient with explaining complex and technical concepts in a simple manner to senior stakeholders.

Further the role will include reporting on the outcomes of the net zero program in the Groups external publications such as the annual report, TCFD, Conference of the Parties and Annual General Meeting updates.

Responsibilities

Strategy

  • Work on the implementation of the bank-wide sectoral decarbonization strategies and related project teams (e.g., O&G, Metals and Mining, Transport, Cement, Steel, etc). Provide technical support where necessary to drive successful delivery.
  • Consider and help implement carbon accounting approaches and sectoral methodologies for business leads and bank senior leadership.
  • Work with the team on a multi-year projection of planned methodologies and contribute to their creation, alignment and adoption.

Business

  • Engage with business sectoral leaders and senior leadership about net zero target-setting options and decarbonization levers.
  • Along with the team, build and manage sectoral decarbonization-focused relationships with senior external stakeholders across the projects as well as internally identify and manage anticipated hurdles.
  • Help to manage cross-company partnerships with carbon accounting firms and experts in the field, particularly relating to scope 3 and financed emissions methodologies, scope 1 and 2 energy procurement, and supplier codes of conduct.
  • Represent the bank in senior carbon accounting and methodology external engagements and working groups to set and modify net zero standards.
  • Liaise with the external net zero eco-system to facilitate the implementation of industry best practice
  • Act as a focal point with SBTi to ensure requirements and deliverables are met for target vetting and to represent the bank's interests in shaping methodologies, particularly where challenges are present in the bank's footprint markets

Processes

  • To work in a high functioning, problem solving team, ensuring coordination and helping the successful implementation of cross-company strategy.
  • Working with the team to manage the accounting of SCB's residual emissions and carbon credit needs.
  • Benchmarking external reports of sustainable balances and carbon disclosure to peers;
  • A proficient level of understanding of IFRS standards is required, especially IFRS 9 - Financial Instruments, as well and a proficient level of banking product understanding. The ability to read and understand IFRS standards and the new ISSB standards to a decent level will be required, on the job training will also be provided.
  • Support regulatory and financial reporting e.g., TCFD, annual report and ISSB disclosures.
  • Keeping abreast and leading the team on FRC, PRA and other financial reporting requirements with regards sustainability disclosures;
  • Resolving sustainability financial reporting issues raised by the Group's external auditors;

People & Talent

  • Development and training of junior resources, as and when required.
  • Training to be provided to stakeholders as this area grows and evolves.

Risk Management

  • Support the adherence to necessary Sustainability frameworks and policies, including input into the evolution of Sustainability frameworks

Governance

  • Ensure conduct / adherence to polices, regulations and deadlines.

Regulatory & Business Conduct

  • Display exemplary conduct and live by the Group's Values and Code of Conduct.
  • Take personal responsibility for embedding the highest standards of ethics, including regulatory and business conduct, across Standard Chartered Bank. This includes understanding and ensuring compliance with, in letter and spirit, all applicable laws, regulations, guidelines and the Group Code of Conduct.
  • Interaction with regulators including - PRA, Bank of England.
  • Effectively and collaboratively identify, escalate, mitigate and resolve risk, conduct and compliance matters.

  • Decision making, the want to learn and teach and problem solving is core to the role.

Qualifications

  • Qualified Chartered Accountant with Financial Services background (Banking preferred) - 5 years PQE
  • Extensive experience of carbon accounting models, quality control and implementation teams.
  • Substantial knowledge of climate reporting landscape and / or the Science-based Targets Initiative with an understanding of indicators used in frameworks and standards.
  • Experience in financial reporting e.g., TCFD
  • Detailed knowledge of Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHGP), including PCAF.
  • Demonstrated strong understanding of banking products and ability to learn how
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong analytical skills and capability for self-directed research and work
  • A curious and enquiring mind, want to learn and grow as this role evolves over time
