­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­ROLE PURPOSE:

Support employability activities designed to provide opportunities for students to benefit from work-based learning and work experience. Work with programme teams to help embed employability skills and graduate attributes. 

ROLE and RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Work with programme teams to embed employability in all programmes.
  • Work with the careers information and professional bodies to develop students’ employability skills through cv development, networking opportunities etc.
  • Co-ordinate the Institutes Employability approach to support the overall employability strategy.
  • Help ensure that graduate attributes are explicitly embedded in all programmes.
  • Develop links with employers and extend the numbers of employers who have active relationships with Metanoia.
  • Work closely with employers to develop work related opportunities for students.
  • Work closely with students to match them to work based learning and work experience opportunities and ensure that they are well-prepared to undertake them.
  • Liaise with employers and students during placements to ensure that they are working effectively.
  • Publicise and promote the opportunities available to students and staff in relation to employers and employability.
  • Maintain accurate records and management information to support the Institute in reporting to the Senior or Executive Team.
  • Use IT databases effectively to support the Institute.
  • Provide the initial point of contact in RAS for incoming visitors and learners; telephone-callers, and emails referring them to other staff or taking messages as appropriate; to make outgoing telephone calls, text messages and email and social media communications as requested.
  • Be the main point of contact for employability and careers data, managing and maintain any such databases.
  • Take a lead on employer and post study questionnaires and survey related to employment and career characteristic of our alumni.
  • Interrogate careers and employability data for the purposes of our statutory returns, annual monitoring etc.
  • Provide appropriate information about the Service and to refer users on to colleagues for further relevant services as necessary.
  • Support the work required for organising career development learning and related programmes, careers fairs, programmes of presentations, groupwork, and meetings, including attendance at meetings and the room bookings, catering and travel arrangements associated with this.
  • Provide a pro-active, courteous and effective support service to deadlines as necessary for the advertising and listing of vacancies and various opportunity providers - mainly local and national employers.
  • Utilise appropriate technology and in house software databases for the creation of communication, publicity for emails, newsletters letters, reports, newsletters, vacancy lists and notices, and other materials, agendas for committees, etc. as required for the smooth running of the Service.
  • To pro-actively undertake general office-related duties including the collection, dating and allocation of post, collation of documents, photocopying, filing, ordering stationery, and maintaining a smooth and functioning office environment etc.
  • Regularly maintain Information points; visiting employers and programmes of activities organised by the Service.
  • Make use of a range of computer-databases generally in support of the work of career and employability services.
  • Assist other members of staff as the need arises, particularly in connection with the needs of staff and students regarding career and employability information; visiting employers and programmes of activities organised by the Service around our campus’s.
  • Provide information and support to student learners, for their best use of the resources made available to them.
  • To carry out any other duties appropriate to the grade, as directed by the Academic Registrar or a nominated representative. 

Essential Skills and Experience 

  • Educated to HND/degree level or equivalent and/or relevant vocational qualification such as an NVQ Level 3 in Advice and Guidance or similar. Equivalent work experience may be accepted in lieu of formal qualifications.
  • A good standard of literacy and numeracy equivalent to GCSE English and Maths
  • Extensive experience of working with employers
  • Experience of developing employability activities and opportunities
  • Relevant experience in a similar role supporting students in being professionally ready to enter the workplace.
  • Experience of providing first-line advice and guidance.
  • A high standard of IT skills including familiarity with Microsoft Office, information systems or similar databases.
  • Knowledge and skills in general administration procedures such as filing, record keeping (electronic and manual).
  • Good written and verbal communication skills. Able to demonstrate an organised approach to work with ability to work without direct supervision, prioritise different tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Ability and aptitude to learn new skills quickly and adapt to a changing work environment.
  • Good attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Understanding of confidentiality, data protection and information governance.
  • May provide work-based training and guidance to new staff or less experienced colleagues within own areas of work.
  • Maintain up to date manual and electronic systems ensuring the accurate recording of all information.
  • Undertake routine financial administration as needed.
  • Communicate frequently with programme teams, students, employers and visitors and respond courteously to enquiries and queries. Provide information and advice about a range of student employability matters.
  • There is a requirement for good listening and interpersonal skills and the ability to flex communication style.
  • Work with colleagues including programme teams and the wider RAS team.
  • Work flexibly as needed to provide efficient and effective support. This may include working across different portfolios and service areas to meet peaks in demand, support Institute events or cover for absence.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of faculty strategy.
  • Resolve a broad range of first-line student queries in line with Institute policy.
  • Seek advice and guidance from relevant colleagues to respond to more complex or unusual queries.
  • Plan and prioritise own work to meet deadlines and respond proactively to urgent matters.
  • Contribute to the development of systems, policies and practices by suggesting improvements based on own practical experience and feedback from customers.
  • Be aware of risks in the work environment and the potential impact on own work.
  • To work in a flexible way so that advice and support is available when teaching occurs. This may mean working some weekends and evening.
