Edinburgh, United Kingdom City of Edinburgh Council Full time
Job Description

Children, Education and Justice Services

Depute Head Teacher
Holy Rood RC High School

Salary £79,109
Hours: 35 per week

Holy Rood is a Catholic secondary school with a roll of 1214 pupils. It is situated in the conservation village of Duddingston to the east of Holyrood Park. The school moved into an impressive new building in August 2009. There are six Catholic primary schoolswithin the Holy Rood catchment area, which covers a large section of the eastern side of the city of Edinburgh. However, as a result of parental choice, the current First Year has drawn pupils from a total of 25 different Primary Schools. Key to the school's success is the important transition work undertaken to ensure S1 pupils are well prepared and supported in the transfer from primary to secondary school.

Holy Rood has a very committed teaching and support staff who work hard and creatively, together, to provide a very high standard of learning experience for every child. It is an inclusive school which respects the dignity of the individual, promotes gospel values and firmly puts the child at the centre. The school is successful both in terms of pupil attainment and pupil achievement and strives to ensure every pupil is supported in reaching his/her potential in both areas. The school has in place successful strategies to meet the requirements of pupils with additional support needs, including our gifted and talented students. The school's success is not taken for granted and so it has a strong focus on the improvement agenda.

The school has a strong sense of community and has worked hard to achieve very productive links with its cluster primary schools, Further Education Colleges, local businesses and a variety of other community partners. This is reflected in the programme of opportunities for personal development the school offers its pupils, and for which it receives well deserved acclaim.

Holy Rood has a strong belief in the principle of collegiality and in distributive leadership at all levels. Therefore, as a member of the Senior Leadership Team, the successful candidate will be required to model strong individual leadership qualities, capable of inspiring teaching and support staff to engage in and drive forward the school's improvement agenda in a creative and committed manner.

The school also places a strong emphasis on supporting staff and so requires a DHT who can address all aspects of this significant aspect of school life.

For further information please visit our website at www.holyrood.edin.sch.uk or to discuss the post please contact David Csaszar.

Salaries will be in accordance with the Scheme of Salaries and Conditions of Service for Teaching Staff in School Education.

This post is regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. Where an individual has spent a continuous period of 3 months or more out with the UK in the last 5 years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required. You will be required to provide this check. An unconditional offer of employment and commencement in the post will be subject to the outcome of both these pre-employment checks being deemed satisfactory.
