Newport, United Kingdom Newport City Council Full time

We are looking for a highly motivated, flexible individual with relevant work experience to oversee the day to day management of the school’s inclusion team from September 2024. The role will involve working under the guidance of members of the school leadership team, working closely with staff from across the school to play a key role in delivering pastoral and learning support to learners sent to the Inclusion Room (IR) office. In addition, you will receive and supervise learners excluded from, or otherwise not working to, a normal timetable.

You will work to address the needs of learners who need particular help to overcome barriers to learning. You will support individuals and groups of learners to enable access to learning and assist the school’s teachers with the management of learners within the classroom and beyond.

Working closely with our learners you will advise and provide information to enable them to make choices about their own learning/behaviour/attendance, as well as challenging and motivating learners, promoting and reinforcing their self-esteem. A key part of this role is to support learners to access learning using appropriate strategies and resources.

Patience, understanding, resilience and a caring attitude along with the ability to provide support and build positive relationships is essential in this role.

You will be a team player who is able to organise and plan their own time. If you are motivated by how children learn and are able to inspire our more challenging children then we look forward to hearing from you.

The appointment process will involve an interview with members of the school leadership team and a selection of Governors.

This position is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (1974) and is subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service Check (DBS).

As an employee of Newport City Council, you will be able to enjoy the benefits of a generous pension scheme, discounted Newport Live membership as well as other benefits including the Cycle to Work Scheme.
