Our mission involves engaging and inspiring individuals to contribute toward tackling the nature and climate crisis through the protection, restoration, and creation of essential woodland habitats.
THE ROLE
- This is a key role in the Scotland Outreach team that will focus on increasing restoration and enhancement of ancient woodland throughout Scotland’s rainforest zone, raising the profile of ancient woodland, managing existing and new partner relationships and projects, and providing advice to landowners and land managers on ancient woodland protection, management and rainforest restoration.
- The Outreach Adviser for Scotland’s Rainforest will work closely with Woodland Trust’s own Estates and Outreach teams, communities, eNGOs and other partners in the Alliance for Scotland’s Rainforest (ASR) to promote and assist the development of a landscape scale approach to rainforest restoration while continuing to provide bespoke advice as appropriate to individual landowners and managers.
- This role will increase impact by initially, focussing on supporting the delivery of rainforest restoration projects. The role will help inspire and enable a wide range of landowners to manage the precious resource of ancient woodland sustainably, including restoration of Plantations on Ancient Woodland Sites and protection and restoration of temperate rainforest.
- A company car will be provided for this role.
THE CANDIDATE
- You’ll need experience working in the land management sector, preferable in forestry or woodland conservation, engaging with a wide range of stakeholders including landowners, statutory and public bodies and local communities.
- You’ll have experience of managing large woodland management projects and budgets and be able to deliver through others including partners, contractors, and professional consultants.
- Working ecological knowledge of the Scottish rainforest zone, the species and habitats within it, and related threats and opportunities to safeguard its future.
- An understanding of current land management funding streams and opportunities including grants and funding.
- The role is based in the Rainforest zone in Scotland and will require significant travel. Ideally the successful candidate will be based in the Rainforest zone.
