We design and build a full range of naval ships from offshore patrol vessels to giant aircraft carriers, giving customers the capability to fulfil extensive naval operations around the world. We are the only provider of complex warships and their combat management systems to the UK Royal Navy’s surface fleet. Do you have what it takes to join our Naval Ships team? Why BAE Systems?

We welcome candidates from all backgrounds and particularly from sections of the community who are currently underrepresented within our industry, including women, ethnic minorities, people with disabilities, and LGBTQ+ individuals. What you will be doing
As an Undergraduate, you will be involved in the design, development, and testing of complex mechanical systems and turning ideas into products. As a Mechanical Engineer, you will be the one who turns ideas into products. You will be involved in the design, development, and testing of complex mechanical systems. In the early stages of a project, you will apply scientific principles and technical information to generate concept ideas. After this, you will select the most suitable design and turn it into a viable solution.
Through 3D modelling and a range of analysis tools, you will create a detailed design of the product that factors into considerations such as materials, manufacture, assembly, cost, and performance to name just a few. Our military and commercial programs require us to push our capabilities and technologies to the limit of what is achievable today. Duties and Responsibilities
- Capturing and analyzing requirements in order to understand the customer/business needs and the context in which the system will be used.
- Supporting the design and optimization of system architectures and solutions using system modelling techniques.
- Facilitating successful integration of systems and sub-systems.
- Identifying and mitigating failure modes.
- Supporting the identification of safety hazards and the assessment and mitigation of safety risk.
- Creating high-quality written reports and calculations to back up engineering decisions.
Skills and Qualifications
Skills: As a minimum requirement, you’ll need to be on track to obtain, a 2.2 in your Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Design Engineering, or Marine Engineering (Mechanical Engineering with Manufacturing or with another allied subject is also acceptable).
To be considered for this role, you must be returning to university to complete your degree. Opportunities for Growth and Development
