Teesdale Special Flora Trust is seeking an energetic and inspiring individual to lead the Trust to the next level in its development. The Trust was founded in 2017 by Dr Margaret Bradshaw MBE, who has studied and monitored the Teesdale flora (which includes a unique collection of rare species) since the 1950s. It aims to promote the protection, conservation and improvement of the physical and natural environment and biodiversity and to engage and advance the education of the public in the conservation and protection of the rare species.

Between 2021 and 2023 we undertook a major project with the support of funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund Green Recovery Challenge Fund and others, increasing our profile and activity level very substantially. We now need to furtherconsolidate our position to secure a truly sustainable future that will strengthen the Trust’s efforts to protect the unique heritage of rare species, which are struggling to survive in the face of a growing range of threats.

What we are seeking

We are looking for someone to act as a figurehead, alongside and working closely with the Founder and Trustees, liaising with partner organisations and developing positive relationships with community bodies.

Relevant qualities:

  • Experience as a trustee, or in a similar managerial role.
  • A strong sense of strategic purpose.
  • An inclusive leadership style, with the ability to inspire and support a range of Trustees.
  • The ability to listen and engage effectively, to embrace challenge and debate and to foster close collaboration, within the Trust and externally.
  • The ability to advocate for the Trust and to champion its work through organisational and personal networks, social media and other channels.
  • A strong commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion, both within the Trust and in its external and community relations.
  • A flexible and responsive approach to achieving the Trust’s objectives, and to fostering a broad range of relationships with others in support of those objectives.
