Role: Assistant Planner - Admin

Location: Rugby

Division: Rail Services

Reporting to: Senior Head of Production and Delivery

Purpose of the Role

Join us at Colas Rail and embark on an exciting journey to make a tangible impact through our Business Administration Apprenticeship program, working as an Assistant Planner - Admin . Develop your skills, gain invaluable experience, and help us delivery excellence everyday.


As an Assistant Planner Apprentice, you will get the opportunity to undertake a Level 3 Business Administration Apprenticeship while working in our business You will work closely with the wider team, and join a supportive environment with a thriving community of early career professionals and experienced colleagues who will mentor you every step of the way.


The Assistant Planner Apprentice will join our planning team for working for Rail Services . You will work as part of our integral planning team who ensure all our shifts are delivered safely, competently and efficiently in line with our business needs.

What Will I Be Focused On - Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be mentored by our experienced team where they will learn the end to end process of planning and once competent will be able to fulfil the Planner's role and responsibilities as required below. This will include knowledge on the different staff contracts, hours, competencies and rostering rules so that each member of staff can be aligned to the correct shifts to meet operational and fatigue standards.

 

Through your mentoring and training you will become competent to:

 

  • Ensure all Network Rail requests are planned and rostered to a robust and cost-effective plan.
  • Thorough checking of Customer requests to identify possible issues that will/could affect the ability of Colas Rail to deliver.
  • Attend planning meetings/conference calls with Network Rail to discuss future workload, identify issues that will affect any services.
  • All work plans to be input into OTMS or other Data tool
  • Attend meetings with the Regional Operations Manager, Rostering Co-Ordinators, Training Department to discuss forward planning to enable all service’s to be populated and any competency issues to be identified and managed prior to publication of work plans
  • Check the Work plans in collaboration with the Fatigue Department prior to distribution to all On Track Machine Staff
  • Attend Meetings with the Senior Head of Production & Delivery to discuss future workload and impacts to the delivery of Colas Rail
  • Provide accurate work plans to all On Track Machine Staff to ensure that all contractual and operational requirements for the Colas operated fleet are compliant, timely and cost effective within the constraints of all appropriate terms and conditions and contracts
  • Participate in internal daily, weekly & periodic operational planning meetings with all business units of Rail Services to utilise best resource for the business
  • Identify the need for external resource and staff lodging requirements in advance to keep both to a minimum and identify where route learning is required in advance to the work
  • As you will expect the organization may change from time to time and you will be expected to meet the operational requirements.
  • Any other reasonable duties as required from time to time.
About You - Person Specification
  • Maths and English GCSE or equivalent.
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Good relationship building skills
  • Commitment to learning and completing your apprenticeship
  • Good at taking a problem or task, and breaking it down into smaller elements in order to solve the problem or complete the task
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Word, Excel, and PowerPoint skills
