The Opportunity

Make an impact on the way the UK Parliament works. Use your test expertise to help modernise Parliament and bring it to more people through the power of digital. Taking on this new role within the Product directorate of the Parliamentary Digital Service (PDS), you'll shape the vision and strategic evolution of testing, and act as an ambassador for the test profession.

With a focus on testing standards, practices, roles and responsibilities, you will ensure the delivery of high-quality software products to users. Our portfolio is diverse and the scope for innovation is considerable. You will help us deliver on our ambition to improve system-wide processes and ways of working. You will have the opportunity to design and build test and quality assurance capacity to benefit the Product Directorate, and the entire Digital Service. Collaborating closely with other PDS leaders, you will:

Define and rollout the test strategy for Parliament's bespoke products and services
Take ownership of testing standards, strategies, approaches and policies including functional and non-functional testing, performance testing, security testing, web accessibility testing and smoke testing
Build organisational understanding relating to existing test processes and practices, leading to the implementation of system-wide improvements
Provide line management to our Test Managers and broader leadership to everyone in the directorate's test team
Lead by example and nurture a collaborative learning culture which values continual innovation, improvement and evaluation
Build awareness of emerging technologies and tools and ensure existing products and services meet high standards of quality, accessibility and usability.
What You Need

Highly agile and resilient, you'll have a strong track-record in software testing and deep understanding of the software development lifecycle. At the same time, you'll be able to work at a strategic level, developing broader policies and practices. You'll also be capable of building relationships, cultivating networks and leading teams to success to ensure that Parliament's software meets the highest standards. An ability to see problems and turn them into strategy and improvement plans is key. You will bring:

Experience of providing strong collaborative leadership across the strategic layer of a department with a specific testing focus
An ability to lead investigative work into problems and opportunities and to creatively and critically question, evaluate and communicate findings to a larger team
Experience of using a range of contemporary technologies to enhance the delivery of quality assurance and testing services
Evidence of working with other digital leaders to deliver strategic outcomes
A passion for team development, including the ability to foster a learning culture and coach others
Excellent written and spoken communication skills including the ability to work with senior stakeholders and effectively manage relationships
The ability to pass security clearance, backed by the right to work in the UK
About The Team

The Product directorate is central to our Parliament-wide programme - Transforming Digital (TD) - that will fundamentally change the way Parliament works. Our work spans a range of back and front-end products and services aimed at meeting the rising customer needs of Members and their staff for better digital services in fulfilling their Parliamentary duties. We are also focused on enabling effective procedural and information support to the Chambers and Committees of the two Houses, and delivering accessible, accurate, open and timely data and information to the public and others with an interest in Parliament and the democratic process.
