Communications Officer- 14 Month Maternity Cover
We have an exciting opportunity to join our IT Services Department as a Communications Officer on a 14-month maternity cover basis. This hybrid role involves an average of two days per week in the office.
IT Services is a key department that ensures that the University has robust, reliable and high-performing IT facilities it requires to support the distinctive needs of those engaged in teaching, learning, research and administration. We value and recognise our own and the contribution of others, creating a great culture to work in and a place where we all feel we belong.
We seek an experienced internal communications professional who is passionate about staff engagement and skilled at preparing clear communications for a variety of channels.
What We Offer
As an employer, we genuinely care about our employees’ wellbeing and this is reflected in the range of benefits that we offer including:
- An excellent contributory pension scheme
- 38 days annual leave
- A comprehensive range of childcare services
- Family leave schemes
- Cycle loan scheme
- Discounted bus travel and Season Ticket travel loans
- Membership to a variety of social and sports clubs
About the Role
- You will join a small friendly team providing communications support for the IT department. This role has a focus on staff communications within the department and you’ll need to be skilled at making technical information easy to understand.
- The role is responsible for managing our department intranet, producing a regular staff newsletter and organising a variety of staff events both online and in person. You will think strategically about how best to communicate the department’s activities and achievements, tailoring content for the audience and evaluating the effectiveness of everything you do.
- You will develop excellent working relationships with your immediate colleagues and a range of stakeholders within the department and across the University. You do not require specific expertise in IT, but enthusiasm to learn quickly and draft killer copy that lands well is essential. This busy and varied role would suit someone who is creative, solutions-focussed and collaborates well in a team environment.
About You
You must have:
- Proven internal communications experience, preferably within a large complex organisation with many stakeholder groups
- Excellent writing skills, particularly making complex information easy to understand by non-technical audiences
- The ability to source stimulating content for internal newsletters and to compile these using email marketing software
- Demonstrable experience of working with staff intranets and web content management systems
- Experience of organising staff events both in person and online
- Expertise with Microsoft Office applications
Application Process
You will be required to upload a covering letter/supporting statement, CV and the details of two referees as part of your online application. Submission of a CV alone is not acceptable.
The closing date for applications is 12 noon on Monday 15 July.
Interviews will take place on the week commencing 22 July and will take place in person in Central Oxford.
