About our Human Resources Department
This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Learning and Development (L&D) professional with a passion for L&D to join our HR team. This position plays a pivotal and strategic role in ensuring the Learning and Development of our people meets and compliments the technical and mandatory requirements demanded by the unique facilities and science Pirbright undertakes. As a Major Hazard site and highly regulated organisation, this role holder is required to liaise with various specialist teams across the Institute to ensure a fully joined up approach to the comprehensive learning and development programme we deliver.

The role holder will not be responsible for creating or delivery of training, we buy in the courses needed however, you will be responsible for ensuring that the individual Learning Opportunity strategies from our Science, Operations and Risk & Assurance Directorates, Knowledge Exchange Group, and Estate Management Services are appropriately encompassed into one overall L&D strategy that meets our broad and diverse needs across the whole Institute.

The role holder will work to ensure both Learning and Development and Mandatory training is completed and recorded using the most cost effective and appropriate routes. The role holder will develop a good working knowledge of learning needs for Animal Services, Estate Management Services, Health Safety and BioSafety, and Science etc., The role holder will process all L&D requests from managers and employees, liaise with suppliers, keep our learning management system updated, promote L&D on our intranet, be the key contact for colleges and providers for our Apprenticeship programme as well as supporting managers and their apprentices.

Liaise with all departments across the Institute to understand their mandatory and technical training needs to ensure an integrated L&D strategy.
Work with relevant departments to ensure regulatory requirements for training are being met for Pirbright as a Major Hazard Site
Responsible for processing and coordination of L&D requests.
Liaise with external suppliers to ensure that the training is relevant, professionally delivered, value for money and meets agreed learning outcomes.
Promote formal L&D opportunities internally via our intranet and also encourage informal means of development.
Work with the Equality, Inclusion and Diversity Manager to ensure the success of Institute’s mentoring programmes,
Keep current L&D processes under review to ensure they continue to meet need.

Due to the nature of the work carried out by Pirbright, all successful applicants will be required to go through a comprehensive screening process including reference and qualification checks, financial and security clearances.

Experience in and a passion for Learning and Development
Excellent communication, organisation and planning skills, with accurate data recording and record keeping.
Capable of working independently and assessing own priorities, with an agile approach responding to changing requirements to obtain best outcomes.
Excellent MS Office skills
