Powertrain Calibration/system Performance Engineer
Position Title: Powertrain Calibration/System Performance EngineerDuration: PermanentLocation: CoventryOur Client has a number of exciting opportunities for Calibration/System Performance Engineers to work in the NRMM and related industries.Our Client is a World Class engineering powertrain consultancy, delivering robust projects and technical services for major clients across multiple sectors.They are looking for passionate & pro-active engineers at the top of their game and with all levels of relevant experience, from recent graduates to time served Charted Engineers.This is an opportunity to become part of a professional Team working on projects that make a real difference to the sector and the world we live in.These roles will see the successful candidates embedded in client teams, delivering projects and providing expert technical support.As a member of the Client, you will have full access to a network of the Clients' engineers & experience to grow professionally and provide focused & relevant solutions that add value to our clients & customers.The roles will typically cover a variety of functions and disciplines, including ICE calibration, powertrain system performance development, data analysis, issue investigation & resolution, system modelling and simulation.Some industry or academic experience is preferred, but training will be offered & given to candidates as required.Develop and manage powertrain calibrations using client &/or Client toolsets & processesDefine, generate & manage engine test plansPlanning, execution and analysis of engine & system simulation activitiesSystem performance assessment, including trade-offs and data analysisData review and root cause analysis (RCA) to identify powertrain system issues & develop solutions for resolutionSystem modelling, calibration simulation, using toolsets such a MatLab SIMULINKFunctioning within a professional team, generate & present reports (verbal & written) including recommendations and proposalsWork with other company's & Client teams to deliver project objectivesPromote best practice and robust technical solutions using Client toolsets as appropriateYOUR PROFILE:Essential:2:1 or above Bachelors or Master's degree in a relevant topicExcellent understanding of diesel internal combustion engine operation and performanceKnowledge of ancillary systems (air path, exhaust after treatment technologies, control, etc)Understanding of vehicle architecture & control systemsExperience or knowledge of vehicle emissions requirementsGood knowledge of simulation systems, particularly MatLab SIMULINKWorking knowledge of calibration toolsets & engine calibration, including trade-offs for emissions and performanceExcellent analytical skills, able to interpret data and results and present results in a clear & understandable formatStrong team player, with good communication & English language skillsA self-starter, 'can-do' approach, able to work with other team members at all levels to reach 'win-win' agreementsA strong willingness to learn and developPreferable:PhD in relevant subjectKnowledge of the off highway (NRMM) or heavy duty on road sector, including emissions legislation (Stage V, Tier 4 final, etc)Experience of using calibration and data analysis tools (e.g.: CONCERTO, Vector CANape, CAMEO, DIAdem, etc)An understanding in the techniques, process, toolsets & methodology for Virtual CalibrationExpert NRMM ICE experience (calibration, analysis & simulation)Good knowledge of NRMM machines and associated systemsAn interest in non-ICE based power technologies (Fuel Cells, battery systems, etc)Controls & calibration development using SiL & MiL techniquesFamiliarisation with 1-D simulation tools (e.g. EV Lease Scheme (Salary Sacrifice)Flexi-time (applies to most roles)Private Medical Insurance and Health Cash PlanCycle to Work Scheme22 days holiday per year (increases by 1 day annually up to the max. of 28 days)Special occasion leave (eligibility after probation, subject to conditions)Pension schemeLife Assurance and Income Protection InsuranceOne paid professional membership annually
