The Software Release Manager is responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing the successful release of software applications. They act as the bridge between development, testing, operations, and stakeholders, ensuring a smooth transition from development to production.

Responsibilities:

  • Release Planning and Scheduling:
  • Define release cycles and windows for various software products.
  • Collaborate with development teams to understand product scope and dependencies.
  • Create and maintain release plans, including timelines, milestones, and resource allocation.
  • Communication and Collaboration:
  • Communicate release plans, schedules, and risks to all stakeholders (development, telescope delivery teams, AIV, Science Commissioning and operations).
  • Facilitate cross-functional collaboration between stakeholders.
  • Manage expectations and address concerns throughout the release process.
  • Release Management Process:
  • Develop and implement efficient release management processes.
  • Manage release documentation, including release notes, deployment procedures, and rollback plans.
  • Oversee the build and packaging of software releases.
  • Quality Assurance:
  • Work with testers on teams to ensure the quality and stability of software releases.
  • Track and resolve defects identified during testing.
  • Conduct release readiness reviews and gate approvals before deployment.
  • Deployment:
  • Manage the deployment of software releases to production environments.
  • Coordinate with operations teams to ensure a smooth and successful go-live process.
  • Monitor post-release performance and address any issues that may arise.
  • Process Improvement:
  • Continuously monitor and evaluate the release management process.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement and implement new tools and techniques.
  • Stay up-to-date on industry best practices for software delivery.
