SQL DBA

The successful candidate will join a highly skilled team of project delivery engineers responsible for the delivery of complex projects across multiple secure clients. The role will require a flexible working ethic and a pragmatic approach to IT project delivery. Successful candidates will have experience in the delivery of infrastructure projects along with a broad understanding across a range of capabilities. They will have a keen interest in innovation combined with a willingness to implement new ways of working and automation. This role predominantly requires an in-depth knowledge of the implementation of SQL technologies.

Role responsibilities:

  • Design database activity and file usage and ensure necessary resources are present.
  • Determine data to be collected and analyse information as appropriate.
  • Build for operations to ensure high-quality performance of databases post implementation by considering informational needs and elements, data relationships and attributes, proposed manipulation, data flow and storage requirements, and data output and reporting capabilities for more complex databases.
  • Recommend and implement tuning opportunities to improve system response and run times.
  • Define logical attributes and data inter-relationships and design complex data structures to accommodate database production implementation, storage, maintenance, and accessibility to enhance performance.
  • Optimise database accessibility by developing load-balancing architectures and processes to eliminate downtime for backup processes.
  • Implement automation to limit database accessibility based upon information security level and ensure data spillage from more secure to less secure databases do not occur.
  • Implement database security regulations, policies, and guidelines.
  • Proactively monitors security bulletins to obtain information on potential threats for consideration in new services.
  • Plan and install first-of-type upgrades of database management systems (DBMS) software as necessary to enhance database performance.
  • Research various hardware and software products; recommend solutions and implement approved products.
  • Function as a technical project leader for our portfolio of databases, including installations and upgrades of DBMS software and backup/recovery strategies.
  • Review and approve application and database design decisions to ensure that application solutions exhibit high levels of performance, security, scalability, maintainability, and reliability upon deployment.
  • Assist project managers and Scrum teams in the development of project plans including detailed project estimates and tasks required for database activities.
  • Utilise standard corporate tools to record change and problem activities for tracking purposes.
  • Integrate databases and commercial of-the-shelf software; resolve conflicts between databases and of-the-shelf software, operating systems, and open-source applications.
  • Design and test database installation, implementation, and recovery scenarios.
  • Determine tests to use and collect appropriate data according to established guidelines.
  • Participate in the analysis, development, and implementation of unique database recovery plans in response to client-impacting outages.

Education and Experience required:

  • 5 years’ experience working in DB environment with a least 2 years in a project delivery role.
  • Must have analytical skills and be able to solve technical problems across different platforms.
