Job description
Job responsibilities

The post is based at Beckenham Beacon. The post holder will also cover acute dermatology at Princess Royal University & Orpington Hospitals. Timetables may change to offer clinics at alternative sites within the trust according to departmental requirements. There is no on-call commitment.

The job plan comprises 7 Programmed Activities. There is no on-call commitment. The job plan includes general dermatology, urgent skin cancer clinics, a surgical list, teledermatology, a weekly skin cancer MDT meeting and participation in departmental meetings. The post also includes participation in a rota providing senior cover of ward referrals during normal working hours (supervising the clinical fellow).

General dermatology outpatient clinic templates typically comprise 5 new patients and up to 7 follow up patients. Two-week wait skin cancer clinic templates typically comprise 9 new patients and up to 4 follow-up patients. The department aims to conduct skin cancer clinics on a see and treat model, and nurses are being trained in skin surgery procedures to facilitate this. Theatre lists include around four or five procedures (depending on the complexity of the cases). Acute dermatology inpatient referrals are usually 0-3 per day, many of which are managed remotely via teledermatology. Dermatology does not have inpatient beds, so patients are under named consultants from other teams (e.g. general medicine). The department operates a rota system for ward referrals (daily 9-5 Mon-Fri) and 3 ward vists per week, as required. There is no out-of-hours on-call commitment with this post.

There is a weekly skin cancer multidisciplinary meeting form 1-2pm every Thursday. We also hold a monthly combined clinic for complex skin cancer cases, with representation from dermatology, maxillofacial surgery and oncology.

There is a monthly SE Thames Regional Dermatology Meeting at Denmark Hill (although on some months there is a similar clinic held at Beckenham Beacon). This session covers difficult diagnostic and management problems for patients who come to the regional clinic.

All employees are expected to be prepared to undertake work on any of the Trusts sites as required by the service. As a senior employee of the Trust you will work in close co-operation with, and support other clinical, medical professional and managerial colleagues in providing high quality healthcare to the Trusts patients. Integral to these responsibilities is the following: -

The provision of a first-class clinical service

Effective leadership to all staff engaged in the specialty

Sustaining and developing teaching and research in conjunction with Kings College London / KHP

Undertaking all work in accordance with the Trusts procedures and operating policies

Conducting clinical practice in accordance with contractual requirements and within the parameters of the Trusts service plans

Maintaining the confidence of business plans and development strategies formulated for the specialty, the Division or the Trust
