An excellent opportunity has opened to join the Senior Health team on a fixed term basis (6 months) to allow us to develop our front door services. We are looking for an enthusiastic and dynamic colleague to join us at St George's Hospital, Tooting and Queen Mary's Hospital, Roehampton.
Supported by a highly skilled multi-disciplinary team, the post holder will deliver clinical leadership to Marnham Ward on the St George's site in Tooting which is our Acute Senior Health Unit (ASHU). Alongside the multidisciplinary team, the appointee will provide acute Geriatric Medicine and comprehensive geriatric assessment to frail and elderly patients admitted to the ward. There will also be opportunity to develop and deliver specialist interests on a sessional basis in areas such as interface geriatrics in our Older People's Assessment and Liaison (OPAL) team.
Dr Rhonda Sturley, Senior Health Consultant and Care Group Lead
George's Hospital, the post holder would be responsible for 14 inpatient beds working alongside another Consultant Geriatrician responsible for the other 14 beds. New patient reviews, ad hoc reviews and family meetings would also be performed throughout the week. The highly skilled multidisciplinary team will deliver inpatient acute care and rehabilitation to this group of older adults with frailty. The options for additional working can be tailored to the applicant's preferences but sessional support to our front door OPAL team works well due to the close working of this unit alongside that team and a focus on admission avoidance and short stay.
As a department our priorities and strategy are focused on front door working with provision of an equitable seven-day frailty service alongside development of a frailty same day emergency care (SDEC) hub.
St George's University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust serves a resident population of about 300,000, is located within the South West London ICS and serves six local boroughs, primarily Merton and Wandsworth. The Trust is one of the largest healthcare units in the UK, accommodating 1070 beds and annually treating around 61,500 inpatients as well as over 420,000 outpatients. The Trust provides general acute services together with tertiary services including neurosciences, cardiothoracic, and specialist children's services.
St George's Hospital is the main teaching hospital in the western sector of the South Thames region and has developed links with most of the regional district general hospitals. It supports a significant training programme for junior doctors that rotate through the Trust.
