Director of People and Organisational Development

London, United Kingdom CARE International UK Full time

The Director of People and Organisational Development is a senior leadership and strategic role in CARE International UK (CIUK).

Our goal is to create a future-facing, enabling environment so that our staff can deliver our mission in an empowering and effective way. You’ll lead on all aspects of the transformation in our people and organisational development strategies. Working very closely with the Chief Executive, you will be both a leader of profession and an organisational architect, shaping a positive, enabling, anti-racist and inclusive culture. We’ll expect you to represent CIUK within the global CARE confederation, as well as building a relevant external profile and partnerships. Internally, you’ll oversee constructive employee relations, including with our recognised union (Unite) and staff working groups.

We’ve recently embarked on a comprehensive review and update of our people offering, including our employee value proposition, working locations and patterns, policies and practices, and learning and development. We also recognise the need to strengthen our information systems, and will be appointing an additional part-time Director in due course, to work closely with the new DPOD in reviewing and future-proofing this area.

We’re looking for someone who’s excited by this opportunity, good at setting priorities, and can work collaboratively and communicate effectively across the organisation. Candidates will have a broad portfolio of relevant experience and are likely to have held senior roles within INGOs or the wider charity sector. Outcome-focused and exceptionally well-organised, you’ll have an impressive track record of designing and implementing lasting positive change.

You’ll work with the grain of our workforce at every level, understanding their strong intrinsic motivation to be part of our mission and making them proud to be part of the international CARE federation. Able to prioritise and work in an agile way, you’ll relish the chance to play your part in maintaining CARE’s reputation as a global leader in humanitarian and crisis work.

As a critical member of the Senior Leadership Team, you’ll hold responsibility for human resources, facilities, travel and security, internal communications, as well as a shared oversight (with the CEO) for information management and technology.
