Senior Systems Administrator

Our public sector client is looking for a Senior Systems Administrator to provide technical advice and support on their technical systems. You will be responsible for managing the delivery of technical services by supporting the organisation’s infrastructure, server, systems, communications and services at a third line support level.

Skills and Experience

  • Expert technical experience of wide variety of Server, Storage and Networking technologies at 3rd Line Support level.
  • Expert experience of Windows Servers, Virtualisation technologies, enterprise storage technologies and other Server and infrastructure technologies in a large enterprise environment.
  • Experience of supporting Cloud technologies
  • Knowledge of IT security best practice
  • Experience of leadership and staff development in a technical/support team environment). Experience of directing others to undertake tasks.
  • Have excellent written and oral communication skills to produce reports and give presentations at an organisation wide level
  • Strong communications skills and the ability to present to all staff at the appropriate level
  • Report and documentation skills to set out information in a concise and logical manner
  • Planning and organisational skills to effectively deliver requirements

Day to Day

Technical Delivery

  1. Provide 3rd Line technical expertise support to other technical Operational teams and Project Teams as required.
  2. Use tools to investigate, diagnose and resolve complex and/or high risk problems to maintain service level agreement levels, referring to users, other staff, the Service Desk and suppliers as necessary. This also involves analysing persistent problems and providing long term pro-active fixes.
  3. Carry out complex configuration/installation and reconfiguration of server, storage and communications platforms for business as usual changes or projects as required.
  4. Recommend and implement standards for configurations, tools and products.
  5. Define and maintain system documentation, i.e., standards, security orders, procedures, configuration information.
  6. Use management software and appropriate analysis equipment to collect platform and system statistics, model performance, and create reports including proposals for improvement. Where necessary also use this information along with details of current and expected technology change, system growth and business needs to provide complex capacity planning models for future planning and budgeting.

Work Management

  1. Point of reference for queries relating to the incident/change management process
  2. Ensure incidents are resolved within the SLA target
  3. Change Ownership role – monitor the progress of Change Requests from logging stage to completion
  4. Dealing with customer complaints and escalating to the team manager and beyond as appropriate
