You will provide clinically excellent and compassionate care. Provide competent and skilled care of women with Urogynaecological conditions working within an established multidisciplinary team.
Work as a specialist nursing resource within the outpatient setting not simultaneously as a registered nurse member of the clinic staff. Care will be provided under direct and indirect supervision with due regard for local and national guidelines
The Urogynaecology specialist nurse will sit within the Specialist Nurse rota and be available to attend specialist clinics across the county Monday to Friday to ensure Urogynaecology patients needs are met.
As a member of the gynaecology directorate multidisciplinary team to have responsibility for ensuring assessment of care needs, development and evaluation of programmes of care ensuring the delivery of high-quality care to patients.
Liaise with all members of the multi-disciplinary team in primary and secondary and co-ordinate all aspects of care in the best interests of the patient and family.
Supervise junior staff and to teach qualified and unqualified staff as appropriate.

To liaise with all members of the multi-disciplinary team in primary and secondary and co-ordinate all aspects of care in the best interests of the patient and family.
To supervise junior staff and to teach qualified and unqualified staff as appropriate.
To liaise closely with the Lead Urogynaecology nurse and any external mentors to ensure training needs are being met.
With indirect supervision to be responsible for the day-to-day care of urogynaecological patients visiting the department. Assessment of care needs to include simple and complex clinical problems of the patient.
Specialist nursing duties may include but are not limited to:
Management of women with vaginal pessary including audit and database
Ante natal and post-natal visiting as requested by Obstetric team
Enhance the communication link between primary and secondary care multidisciplinary team
Assist with patients positioning, and placement of lines for urodynamic testing.
Carry out simple Urodynamic testing including reporting of results.
Perform stand-alone flow studies
Review of conservative management pathways as part of a planned programme of care
Responsible for the implementation and evaluation of programmes of care for the patient whose needs may be predictable or unpredictable and / or unstable and changing to ensure delivery of high standards of care
To support and involve patients / clients / carers relatives and liaise with and coordinate other members of the primary and secondary care multidisciplinary team in the planning and delivery of individualised care.
To be responsible for maintaining patients records within agreed standards to ensure the care management plan is communicated to patients and other members of the multidisciplinary team.
Adopt a positive approach to infection control, actively contributing to infection control policy and practice.
To contribute to the effective use of physical, financial and human resources
To provide training when requested to new registered and non-registered staff i.e HCAs and student nurses. To provide advice and support ensuring safe and effective care and that educational needs are met.
This will include assisting the lead nurse in development of guidelines and policy with specific reference to endometriosis.
Monitor and maintain own and others health, safety and security
To work within an ethical framework utilising the NMC code of conduct, defined policies, procedures, standards and protocols of the department, organisation to promote safe and effective evidence-based practice and contribute to quality improvement.
To understand and take ownership of own training pathway with due consideration of the requirements of the BSUG
In the absence of the Lead Urogynaecology nurse when asked to take charge of an identified area of work and manage the standards of care and daily responsibilities, including work allocation, deployment and supervision of junior staff to ensure smooth running of the area.
Education and Continuing Professional Development
To maintain competency and produce evidence demonstrating continued professional development in the role of the specialist nurse for urogynaecology.
To be conversant and comply with trust policies and regulations ensure attendance at trust mandatory training sessions and those deemed necessary to role. To participate in personal / career development plan to maintain and develop attitudes, skills and knowledge facilitating personal and professional growth to maximise contribution to and quality of service delivery.
To support the personal and professional growth of new, registered and non-registered staff, in order to maximise their contribution to and quality of service delivery.
To participate fully in the implementation of staff personal development plans to facilitate on-going development.
Quality / Research and Development
To contribute to the audit of Urogynaecology services and develop a working knowledge of reporting system and quality initiatives within field of Urogynaecology.
Demonstrate research awareness and ability to participate in and regularly support on-going research in nursing / medical practice, clinical trials, medical research and equipment testing.
To work within an ethical and legal framework utilising the NMC code of professional conduct, defined policies, procedures, standards and protocols of the department / organisation to promote safe and effective evidence-based practice and contribute to quality improvement.
To always maintain a professional attitude developing the role of the nurse in the best interest of the patient and profession in accordance with Nursing & Midwifery Council Standards and Guidelines.
To be aware of personal and professional development. Participate in research projects where appropriate, report findings within a multidisciplinary framework.
To assist the Department manager in monitoring staff performance when requested.
To inform the Lead nurse / responsible consultant of staff failing to meet the required standard of performance, and taking appropriate action where required.
Post-registration qualification in oncology or relevant to specialty
First Degree in health-related subject (or equivalent) or be willing to undertake
Experience in gynaecological / female urological nursing / continence care at least 3 years
Evidence of continued professional development
Post-registration qualification in urogynaecology / womens health
Higher degree in health-related subject (or to undertake within a year of being in post)
Advanced communication skills course/counselling qualification.
Clear understanding of the clinical nurse specialist/advanced practice nursing role and the associated responsibility and accountability.
Ability to manage projects and meet deadlines
Evidence of commitment to patient care initiatives and incorporation of cultural values into practice.
