The Opportunity

This is a full time permanent role for a full stack software developer based in Beeston, Nottingham. You will be working as part of a DevOps team made up of around 15 hardworking and enthusiastic people who share a passion for delivering real value to, and driving change in, the UK rail industry.

We are the UK’s largest and most established provider of Customer Information Control systems that drive the CIS displays and automated public address announcements at around 2,000 UK railway stations. Worldline provide these systems to Train Operating Companies and Network Rail.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities​

Your day-to-day role will focus on the design, development and unit testing of small to medium sized changes to our existing CIS system, as well as the resolution of software bugs. You will also be responsible for conducting reviews of the wider team’s code and breaking larger designs down into smaller work packages for junior members of the team.

We offer a relaxed hybrid working model: During school term - 3 days office based, and 2 days home based. Outside of school term, during major school holidays, this is relaxed up to 5 days working from home.

The role may also require occasional travel to other Worldline or customer sites.

Who Are We Looking For

We look for big thinkers. People who can drive positive change, step up and show what’s next – people with passion, can-do attitude and a hunger to learn and grow. In practice this means:

  • An experienced full-stack developer with a min. 3-4y experience with PHP to help us develop our applications using the following tools, frameworks and languages (not limited to):
  • Laravel Framework utilizing PHP
  • Frameworks such as Angular utilising JavaScript and TypeScript
  • HTML
  • CSS
  • SQL
  • Experience of working DevOps with tools such as Jira, Bitbucket, GitLab repositories and CI/CD pipelines, SonarQube and Containers
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English

Other, less common tasks include

Deputizing for Team Leader / Scrum Master – leading daily team calls etc.

Assisting Team Leader / Product Owner with technical estimates

Visiting customers’ premises for occasional face to face meetings/workshops and commissioning of CIS equipment

Following adequate experience and training, there may be an opportunity to join the team’s paid out of hours roster which deals with critical faults out of standard business hours
