As the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) goes through the biggest reform in its history, effective communications are critical to its success. As Head of Insight, you’ll have a rare opportunity to develop how we use data, research, and analysis to improve our communication planning, development, targeting and evaluation. It’s an exciting time to be part of the Met as it changes and evolves. In this influential role, you will work with talented communication colleagues; link into the operational insight team and their behavioural scientists; and delve into a wealth of data. You’ll then identify the insights to help shape Met campaigns. It’s all about reaching and engaging with our audiences with communications that build trust, reduce crime, and raise standards.
It all starts with building a new insight and evaluation team – one that can conduct both quantitative and qualitative research and which is expert in audience and behavioural insight. Together, you’ll embed the use of data and insight and evaluation in all communication plans and improve the metrics currently used to assess communication performance. You’ll also improve how the Communications teams uses digital and web-based analytical tools and data, and the way insight is used. With your expertise, we’ll reach our audiences at the right time with the right message and achieve the right impact too.
Determined and capable, you’ll assess which channels are most fruitful by commissioning research agencies. And finally, you’ll improve the way we evaluate the effectiveness of our communications across campaigns, media, social media, and media comms.
We’re looking for a communications insight expert who has great technical expertise combined with political and communications nous. You’ll be confident about shaping and developing this new function, spotting opportunities, and inspiring a new team. Ideally, you will have worked in an insight role within a large communication or marketing function and understand communication planning and evaluation tools and techniques. With this background, you’ll gain the confidence of senior officers, work with peers across the Communications Directorate, and embed insight best practice into everything we do.
