Job Description:

Responsible for organizing and overseeing the training of Merchant Navy Officer Cadets. To liaise with their sponsoring company and college staff, and the monitoring and supervision of students throughout their training. This will include making college visits and participating in other work activities outside of the SSTG office which will involve travel, in the UK, and short periods away from home and overnight stays, c. 15-25 nights per annum.

What you will be doing:

• Co-ordination of cadet training arrangements, including college training and sea service placements.

• Review college and sea service reports and providing feedback to cadets. 

• Visiting cadets at college and proving information on training.

• Co-ordinating cadet travel arrangements, including booking flights and hotels, etc.

• Dealing with cadet enquires by telephone and e-mail.

• Attend careers events & college open days.

• Maintain close liaison with other SSTG staff to provide the necessary level of support to cadets and the required service to sponsoring companies.

• Maintain comprehensive records of training undertaken, qualifications achieved and other information as required by regulators, funding administrators and SSTG procedures in respect of each Trainee.

Qualifications and Skills:

Enthusiasm and willingness to learn. 

Excellent written & verbal communication skills, qualified to a good GCSE standard, or equivalent, including English Language.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Excel etc.).

Excellent attention to detail and good administrative skills.

Ability to multi-task and prioritize work and work on your own initiative.

Have a degree of empathy and required level of judgement to deal with students under training.

Must hold a full driving license.
