Graduate Quantitative Analyst

The client is seeking to hire a Graduate Quantitative Analyst who will contribute to a wide range of exciting business activities within the Commercial team. Reporting to the Commercial Director, the Quantitative Analyst will be responsible for the pricing of complex battery energy storage systems (BESS) across UK, Ireland, and Continental Europe and for the further development of the pricing and analytics platform. The company is embarking on an ambitious growth path, affording the successful candidate outstanding career development prospects, and the opportunity to be instrumental in driving that growth through the development of our analytical and pricing capabilities.

About the Company:

The company is formed developer, owner, and operator of utility-scale battery energy storage systems (BESS). The company initially focuses on the UK and Germany, with the intention of expanding further across geographies in Europe and will target BESS projects strategically located near large power demand centres, or at places where the grid faces heightened congestion, price volatility, or fragility. The management team has decades of experience in building and developing successful businesses across the energy sector globally, with a particular focus on power generation, commercialisation, risk management, and BESS solutions.

What role will you play in our team

The Quantitative Analyst will join the Commercial team that analyses and shortlists battery investment opportunities and negotiates and closes route-to-market agreements with battery optimisation providers. The successful candidate will run the indicative pricing of the expected battery revenue, will quantify the underlying commercial risks, and will determine and report the metrics. The Quantitative Analyst develops the battery pricing and optimisation library and the analytical tools to turn around pricing and other ad-hoc requests by the Commercial Director. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in creating transparency of the pricing assumptions and pricing results.

What you will do

• Price and structure battery investment opportunities and route-to-market agreements with 3rd party battery optimisation providers

• Develop a battery optimisation model library to be able to price any battery in any market

• Forecast long term price scenarios for all relevant markets and revenue streams (i.e., wholesale markets, Balancing Mechanism, Ancillary Services and any future congestion services)

• Understand the fundamental price drivers in the markets we operate within

• Back test and challenge the trading strategies of 3rd party battery optimisation providers
• Effectively communicate pricing results to Commercial Director and wider management team
• Produce a battery portfolio report and competitor analysis on a regular basis
• Providing ad-hoc market analysis to the Commercial Director or wider organisation

About you

• Have some programming skills in Python, C#, or VBA

• Demonstrate database skills with ability to handle big datasets

• Have strong analytical and problem-solving skills

• Be a genuine team player with excellent communication skills

• Be self-driven and eager to learn new things

• Be able to see the bigger picture but also have attention to detail

Desirable skills

• Have an understanding of power systems, Ancillary Services and commodity markets

• Be knowledgeable in stochastic price processes and derivative pricing

• Have experience in linear and stochastic optimisation

• QCF qualification is seen as a plus
