Automation Engineer – Naval

Are you an experienced Automation Engineer looking to contribute to exciting naval projects? Our client, a leading provider of electrification systems, is seeking a talented individual to join their team dedicated to solving challenges in the naval sector.


About Our Client

They specialise in motors, drives, and control technologies, delivering innovative power/propulsion and energy system solutions alongside digital & automation technologies to their UK and international customers for both surface and submarine systems.



Key Responsibilities

  • Capture requirements and design the automation system, ensuring it is maintainable, extensible, reliable, efficient, and consistent with company standards.
  • Integrate software and hardware components into one application and verify/validate the system, including with the power system under test.
  • Liaise with other teams and disciplines within the company, customers, and suppliers to facilitate the design and produce requirements and other system documents.
  • Provide maintenance, fault finding, diagnosis, repair, and upgrades/development as required.
  • Perform factory acceptance testing and commissioning work to the company's quality procedures.
  • Participate in design reviews and assist in other areas of the business as required.


Qualifications and Requirements

  • Degree in engineering, computer science, or a related field.
  • Existing or the ability to obtain higher levels of UK Security Clearance, including "SC Clearance" and "UK Eyes Only Clearance".
  • Experience implementing automation systems.
  • Proficiency in PLC programming, HMI creation, and SCADA configuration.
  • Familiarity with various industrial communication protocols (e.g., Modbus, Profinet, EtherCAT, OPC-UA).
  • Understanding of industrial networks and their implementation.
  • Solid programming and software development skills.
  • First-hand hardware troubleshooting and software debugging experience.
