The Role:
We are seeking an energetic and dynamic Design Manager to manage and lead our design team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong commercial mindset paired with a flair for creative thinking.
You will be technically spirited with an eye for detail.
As a key player, you will oversee the design team. You will ensure that we adhere to our process and deliver successfully to our clients, with solutions that are not only functional and aesthetically pleasing but also aligned with 3fD/clients’ goals and timelines.
This is a leadership position that requires business acumen and strategic thinking to help keep projects on task. You will see problems before they happen, you will use your experience to make sure problems are solved ahead of time.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead our team of mechanical and electronic designers, and product designers/engineers, ensuring timely delivery of work across multiple projects.
- Ensure consistency and excellence across all design work, while fostering creativity and innovation within the team.
- Interface with clients to ensure 3fD understands their vision, needs, and product goals, working with the Account Manager to translate these into plans
- Work with our Project Manager on multiple projects, ensuring timely delivery, quality, and budget alignment.
- Oversee the entire design process according to our 3fD Milestone System.
- Stay up-to-date with industry trends, tools, and emerging technologies, and bring forward new ideas and best practices.
Requirements:
- Degree in Product Design Engineering, Industrial Design, Product Design, or a related field.
- Energy and enthusiasm, a positive attitude
- Strong technical skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, great client facing skills
- 10+ years of experience in product design, with preferably at least 2 years in a leadership or managerial role.
- Solid portfolio showcasing your technical skills and ability to lead design projects from concept through to production.
- Knowledge of electronics to enable you to manage electronics designers as well as product design engineers
- Proven track record of successfully managing and delivering multiple projects on time and within budget.
- Proficiency in SolidWorks
- A passion for problem-solving and innovation
