London Area, United Kingdom London Communications Agency Full time

Insight Executive

At LCA we operate in a dynamic and fast paced environment, constantly pushing ourselves, challenging each other and learning as we go along – not one day is ever the same. And we like it that way Within LCA, you would be joining the Insight team.

About the role

The Insight Executive role presents a fantastic opportunity for candidates early in their career (ideally with around 12 months experience) to join a successful, growing company where they will be immersed in a range of work, across a number of clients in a fun, motivated environment.

This role is in our brilliant Insight team, which drives the company’s political and public policy monitoring and research offer, and which acts as the nerve centre for our corporate thought leadership and intelligence-led marketing. Alongside our in-house Design, Finance and Admin teams, Insight supports both of our two client facing divisions, Corporate & Consumer (C&C) and Politics, Engagement & Planning (PEP).

The Insight Executive will be a key part of the Insight team (working with the Account Manager – Insight and Managing Director – Insight), whose work is at the heart of what the agency does. Whilst working predominantly with the Account Manager – Insight, you will also get exposure and opportunity to work directly with senior members of our management team, as well as with team members in all other parts of the agency, to deliver the best possible results for our clients .

We are especially interested in hearing from candidates with a good understanding of government and politics, with knowledge and experience of Labour politics particularly beneficial. Experience of and interest in - policy areas such as planning, housing, development, transport and health would also be a plus. Above and beyond the specifics of a candidate’s experience to date, what we most value is an enthusiasm for all things politics and policy-related

We are looking to enhance the Insight Team’s work to ensure that we are supporting the whole organisation, including working more closely with our design, marketing and social media functions. We are keen to hear from candidates who have experience of data analysis and visualisation, as well as those who have experience of working with social media.

What will you be doing?

We’re looking for an Insight Executive who will be:

Monitoring and distilling key intelligence to produce insight for LCA and its clients

  • Keeping on top of political issues relevant to London at local, regional and national level and particularly in sectors of interest to LCA clients – planning, housing, development, transport and health.
  • Tracking key policymaking and legislative processes in Whitehall, Westminster and City Hall, particularly as they apply to the above sectors.
  • Researching political activity in London’s boroughs and other local government bodies and notifying account teams regarding key developments.
  • Monitoring social media and traditional media, preparing reports and updating account teams as needed.
  • Attending sector conferences, political meetings and other events online and in-person, to network and collect vital intelligence for our clients.

Supporting the LCA team on new business and marketing

  • Supporting the Insight team to produce LDN, LCA's popular weekly newsletter, by helping to identify stories and trends to be included each week, researching and drafting stories, and supporting the wider editorial and production process.
  • Providing research and support on the production of LCA’s regular election briefings.
  • Assisting colleagues with the design and production of marketing presentations, speeches, publications, brochures and other materials, as well as tenders and new business proposals.
  • Leading on the Insight Team’s contributions to LCA’s social media channels, including drafting copy and ensuring that Insight’s work is well represented.

Maintaining LCA’s intelligence systems

  • Maintain LCA’s database of political contacts, particularly the Labour Party, GLA, London boroughs, MPs and key London agencies.
  • Liaising with LCA’s parliamentary and media monitoring services to ensure they are up to date and as effective as possible

About yourself

  • Above all else, excellent critical thinking and writing skills, capable of distilling complex issues into short, to-the-point briefings, with the ability to write for a variety of audiences, from experts to those with no prior knowledge of a subject, as well as newsletters for external readers, internal briefings for senior colleagues and social media posts.
  • Excellent organisational abilities are essential, with the ability to work independently as well as part of a team. Our work is reliant on timeliness and accuracy, even during busy periods, so the ability to stay calm under pressure is vital.
  • Good IT skills, with confidence using Word and PowerPoint a must. Experience using Excel, website content management systems and social media in a professional setting would also be helpful.
  • The ability to come up with interesting and accessible ways of presenting data and insights to different audiences is also desired.
  • Enthusiasm for politics generally, especially Labour politics, and ideally a good understanding of local and regional government, especially in London.
  • Experience of communications / PR work from a previous role may be helpful.
  • Similarly, an open mind able to appreciate - and effectively communicate with - people with all sorts of personal, cultural, religious and political backgrounds.
  • A willingness to proactively build relationships, to develop – over time – a network of useful contacts.
  • A real eagerness to learn and develop on the job and be a core part of the LCA team.
