Job purpose

The Head of Regulatory Compliance is a pivotal strategic position responsible for leading and overseeing the company's compliance initiatives & risk profile. This role ensures our UK-facing websites adhere to regulatory standards, serving as the primary compliance liaison for both the Begame team and regulatory bodies. The ideal candidate will be an effective communicator, adept at engaging with auditors and regulatory authorities, and will report directly to the CEO

 

The Role

We are looking for someone who currently holds or has held a Gambling Commission Personal Management Licence and has a deep understanding of UK regulatory requirements and licensing obligations, including implementation of the various requirements, risk assessments, player protection and reporting obligations. This role will be the holder of the Key Function for Regulatory Compliance, as required by the Gambling Commission.

The candidate should adopt a pragmatic approach to compliance, developing strategies that align with the company's risk appetite while collaborating closely with commercial teams to address regulatory challenges.

This role demands excellent time-management skills to balance the compliance roadmap and policy development with team support. As part of a small team, you will serve as the compliance subject-matter expert, handling a diverse workload. A comprehensive knowledge of Safer Gambling and Anti-Money Laundering is essential, as the Head of Compliance will be responsible for conducting internal audits and reviews in these critical areas. The successful candidate is welcome to work from our London office or remotely, as preferred. However, they will need to be in the office during onboarding and several times per month, as dictated by business needs. Therefore, candidates within easy commuting distance of London are preferred.


Key Responsibilities and Duties

  • Coordinating regulatory compliance efforts across the business.
  • Devising and implementing policies to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Collaborating with the CEO and Management team to ensure compliance in a pragmatic and commercially sensitive manner.
  • Liaising with the product team to integrate upcoming regulatory changes into the product roadmap and approve compliance-related website changes.
  • Acting as the main contact for the Gambling Commission, other regulatory bodies, and legal contacts.
  • Advising Management Team on impact of regulatory changes and providing risk and impact assessments for compliance approaches.
  • Leading compliance assessments and external audits, including those for the Gambling Commission, IT Security, and Games Testing.
  • Providing day-to-day support for the Operations Team in applying AML and Safer Gambling processes.
  • Conducting internal reviews over the effectiveness of AML and Safer Gamblng frameworks.
  • Completing regulatory reports, including Quarterly Regulatory Returns and Key Events.
  • Working with the Nominated Officer for Money Laundering to maintain the Business Risk Assessment and execute action plans to reduce ML/TF risks.
  • Coordinating internal compliance training for the team.
  • Promoting a culture of social responsibility across the company.


Person Specification, Experience & Skills

  • At least 5 years’ experience in a Compliance Manager, Head of Compliance role, or Compliance Director (or equivalent) role for UK-licensed remote operator(s).
  • Past or present holder of Gambling Commission PML.
  • Excellent knowledge of all applicable regulatory requirements including Gambling Commission LCCP, Information Security, Anti-Money Laundering and Data Protection.
  • Strong communicator with a variety of internal and external stakeholders, capable of tackling challenging interactions with regulatory assessors in a confident and composed manner.
  • Open and honest individual who can embody the company values of Teamwork, Innovation, Integrity, Care, and Growth.
  • A natural appreciation of the financial demands on a smaller operator in a competitive market and a strong desire to maintain compliance in a manner that ensures commercial sustainability.
  • Proactive mindset, able to self-motivate and achieve results without super supervision
  • Experience in managing relationships with senior management, marketing, operations, and other key stakeholders
