Our client is seeking the interim support of a Regulatory Expert. The successful candidate will have an in-depth understanding of a broad range of regulatory functions, including public safety, environmental health, trading standards, licensing, and more.


This role is ideal for someone with substantial experience managing regulatory projects within the public sector and working closely with local councils to ensure compliance, risk management, and operational effectiveness.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage a project focused on optimising and improving regulatory services within local councils
  • Oversee key regulatory areas, such as regulation, enforcement, bereavement & registration services, environmental health, licensing, trading standards, public safety, and planning enforcement, ensuring all services meet compliance standards
  • Collaborate with council departments and external stakeholders to implement best practices and ensure smooth project delivery
  • Ensure alignment with national and local legislation, providing strategic guidance on regulatory changes or updates
  • Monitor project milestones, manage risks, and deliver comprehensive progress reports to senior management and stakeholders
  • Provide expert advice on regulatory services and facilitate the continuous improvement of service delivery models


Key Requirements:

  • Proven experience in project management within local councils or public sector organisations
  • Strong expertise in regulatory services, including but not limited to environmental health, licensing, trading standards, and public protection
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills, with a proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage multi-faceted projects
  • Thorough knowledge of UK regulatory frameworks and compliance requirements
  • Strong organisational and communication skills, with the ability to present clear project plans and updates
