Title: Bridging Underwriter

Location: Central London - 3 days per week

Contract: Full-time permanent


Buckden partner is working with a industry leading property finance lender who are growing their team over the next 12 months. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experience Bridging Underwriter to join a close-knit developing team.


Job purpose

The Underwriters are responsible for evaluating and determining the feasibility of all loan applications. The underwriter will do this by validating the information provided, evaluating the risks associated with the asset and borrower and making an informed decision on the approval/denial of the application.


Duties and responsibilities

  • Underwriting and assessing loan documentation, including valuation reports and requesting additional information from brokers where required, highlighting any concerns
  • Carrying out checks on the applicants and properties and assessing their suitability for the loan applied for
  • Proactive chasing of outstanding information from third parties and timely updates to introducers to enable service excellence
  • Recommending and referring cases to Head of Lending where exception approval is required.
  • Liaising with introducers, valuers and solicitors
  • Supporting and guiding colleagues on all matters relating to the underwriting and completion of mortgages
  • Managing decisions on enquiries, new applications and responding within agreed time frames
  • Working to continually improve the development of the company’s lending proposition with customers and intermediaries


Core Skills

  • Previous underwriting experience is required
  • Experience with bridging residential, HMO’s, commercial and refurbishment loans
  • Understanding of the regulatory environment and in particular TCF
  • Provide exceptional service to all third parties
  • Strong attention to detail and high standards
  • High level problem solving and ability to fully justify commercial decisions
  • Excellent time management, organisation and prioritisation of workload
  • Ability to produce quality work whilst in a fast-paced environment
  • Team player
