Technical Support Analyst

Skelmersdale, United Kingdom GBV Ltd Full time

Overview

My client who are based in Skelmersdale are seeking a proactive and skilled IT Support and Infrastructure Analyst to join their IT team. This role is pivotal in supporting and maintaining the company's IT infrastructure across 3 sites, ensuring optimal performance for on-site and remote users. The successful candidate will manage IT systems, provide user support, and drive modernisation and implementation projects. A broad knowledge of IT systems, a problem-solving mindset, and a desire to learn and innovate are essential.

The key elements I’m looking for are the ability to switch seamlessly from supporting end users one moment to working on more advanced things like IT security, and infrastructure support (pretty much all windows based, 10 and 11 on desktop, server 2022). We need a safe pair of hand who has the ability to be a quick learner, a natural problem solver, and be able to work on tasks and projects with minimal management. The role will have a lot of autonomy. If the role holder has improvement suggestions then process is that we simply have a quick chat and make a decision on whether to implement or not.

Key Responsibilities

  • End-User Support: Serve as the first point of contact for IT support, assisting employees across all technical capabilities and seniority levels.
  • Service Desk Management: Oversee Service Desk software, maintaining an accurate log of IT requests and incidents to ensure timely resolution.
  • Device Setup and Maintenance: Configure and maintain end-user computing devices, ensuring reliability and security.
  • Infrastructure Maintenance: Support and maintain on-premises and cloud-based systems, including software, hardware, virtualized environments, and networking including vulnerability management.
  • System Monitoring: Manage routine tasks such as Windows updates, antivirus updates, security alerts, and backups to ensure system health.
  • Project Support: Collaborate with the IT Manager on IT modernization and system improvement projects.
  • Vendor Liaison: Work closely with third-party suppliers to coordinate services and resolve technical issues.
  • Standards Compliance: Ensure IT operations align with ISO27001, ISO9001, ISO14001 and Cyber-Essentials.

Technical Requirements

  • Experience supporting a user base of 40+ employees (organization size ~100 preferred).
  • Strong expertise in Office 365 applications and administration.
  • Familiarity with Zendesk or other Service Desk software.
  • Experience with ManageEngine or similar centralized management tools.
  • Proficiency in Windows Server and Desktop support.
  • Knowledge of upgrading and migrating Microsoft systems.
  • Excellent understanding of Windows operating systems.

Preferred Skills

  • Administration of Azure virtual machines and related resources.
  • Veeam backup administration.
  • VMware environment management.
  • Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) administration.
  • Networking fundamentals and troubleshooting.
  • SAN (Storage Area Network) administration.

Soft Skills

  • Ability to research and implement solutions independently.
  • Strong workload prioritization and time-management skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with users of varying technical expertise.

The role is paying £31-35k and would be based on site initially but once onboarded would reduce to 4 days on site with 1 day remote.
