We are seeking to appoint a Locum Consultant in Restorative Dentistry (9 PA) based within our Department of Restorative Dentistry. Initially, the post is being advertised as a Locum for 6 months while a substantive position will be advertised for. 

The post offers an exciting opportunity to join a friendly and supportive team to provide care for high priority patients in restorative dentistry. The post-holder will support patient care focusing on Head & Neck Cancer and complex restorative rehabilitation patients. The role will involve training of specialist trainees in Restorative Dentistry and Prosthodontics.

Main duties of the job

Applicants must be fully registered with the GDC, on the GDC Specialist Register in Restorative Dentistry, or must be accredited or within 6 months of accreditation at interview stage and have completed a SAC approved training programme.

The Royal London Dental Hospital has undergone major digitisation upscaling during the last 18 months. We have invested > £2.5m in electronic patient record, clinical, laboratory and teaching equipment. You will have an opportunity to work in the state-of-art and most digitally advanced dental hospital and school in the country.

Qualifications

Essential criteria

Full registration with the United Kingdom General Dental Council (GDC) On the GDC Specialist List in Restorative Dentistry or within 6 months of eligibility for inclusion BDS Intercollegiate Specialty Fellowship Exit Examination in Restorative Dentistry or equivalent Possession of a Certificate of Accreditation or eligibility for a CCST in Restorative Dentistry Fellowship in Dental Surgery or Membership of the Faculty of Dental Surgery, or equivalent.

Desirable criteria

Head & Neck Cancer Prosthetic Rehabilitation Fellowship or equivalent. MSc, MClinDent, MRD or equivalent in Restorative subspecialty.

Experience

Essential criteria

Experience in the restorative management of Head and Neck Cancer patients Experience in management of patients with complex restorative needs Experience of clinical chair-side teaching of postgraduate and undergraduate students Effective participation in audit by demonstration of completed audit. Ability to appraise scientific literature critically Understanding of the principles of evidence-based dentistry and ability to apply these to clinical care.

Desirable criteria

Post-CCST experience fulfilling the role of a Consultant in Restorative Dentistry in a multidisciplinary team (Locum or Substantive) Teaching qualification Participation in clinical audits/ QUIPs relating to the care of patients Research relevant to Restorative Dentistry Publications in refereed journals

Knowledge

Essential criteria

Knowledge of head and neck cancer pathways, National and local guidelines and relevant scientific evidence Knowledge and understanding of NHS policies and procedures

Desirable criteria

Experience in management of a clinical service

Essential criteria

Specialist level diagnostic and treatment planning skills within Restorative dentistry Competence in Fixed and Removable prosthodontics, Endodontics, Periodontology and Dental implant surgery Ability to communicate with clarity in written and spoken English; ability to build rapport, listen, persuade/ negotiate Ability to prioritise, manage workload, expedite and facilitate care when urgent Ability to take responsibility, lead, make decisions and exert appropriate authority Empathy, understanding, listening skills, patience and ability to work co-operatively with others. Ability to work as part of a team.
